The Oregon Muslim Bar Association is holding its 4th Annual Ramadan Iftar party open to everyone in the community. This wonderful tradition has welcomed hundreds of guests, including students, families, politicians, judges, legal and non legal professionals, as well as attorneys from all over the world. We are excited to welcome back a musical performance by the world famous violinist, Daniel Shaheen Moltke. If you are in the Portland area on Saturday, March 15th, please send an RSVP email to [email protected] with the names of all of the people in your party who wish to attend. Attendance will be free of charge. We are asking guests to bring a dessert or beverage to share, which will be appreciated, but it is not mandatory. Location address and carpooling information will be sent prior to the event upon confirmation of RSVP to [email protected]

Thank you to everyone who attended our joint affinity bar event with The Oregon Muslim Bar Association, South Asian Bar Association of Oregon, Oregon Arab Iranian Bar Association, and the Oregon Asian Pacific Bar Association, co-sponsored with a generous grant awarded by SAIF Corporation. It was wonderful to meet so many law students, college, and even high school students interested in networking with local attorneys and some of our most inspiring members of the Oregon judiciary. Shukran also to our incredible hosts at Dar Salaam Restaurant in downtown Portland for an incredible spread of delicious food and beverages. Stay tuned for more events in 2025 and join us at OregonMuslimBarAssociation .org
We had a wonderful (sold out!) event with OAIBA, OMBA, and OAPABA this past week, and are grateful to Judges Aruna Masih, Rima Ghandour, Jennifer Sung, Steven Powers, and Mustafa Kasubhai (he/him) for speaking to attendees about the Oregon judiciary and the pursuit of justice. Be sure to join us for our next joint affinity bar event - we'll let you once we have something planned :)

This is now a must-read article. By taking down the Columbia Law Review website to override its editors to censor this article on the Nakba (the Arabic term for the events of 1948, when many Palestinians were?displaced?from their?homeland?by the creation of the new state of Israel) the board of directors guaranteed the article a much broader readership. The link to the article is in the comments. Last November, the Harvard Law Review made the unprecedented decision to kill a fully edited essay prior to publication by the same author, Palestinian human rights lawyer Rabea Eghbariah. That article was subsequently republished by The Nation. The link to that piece is also in the comments. Folks, there can be no clearer demonstration of the Palestine exception to free speech.
