Oregon Humanities is committed to bringing people together across difference. Each year, Oregon Humanities offers hundreds of public conversations and programs across the state, trains and supports dozens of discussion leaders, and awards tens of thousands of dollars in grants to organizations that, like us, believe in the power of people in rooms listening, learning, and struggling together. In our magazine and on our website, we publish essays, photographs, films, and audio recordings that explore the thoughts, perspectives, and experiences of Oregonians, especially those who have been ignored, generalized, or oppressed. Oregon Humanities is an independent, nonprofit affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities. Oregon Humanities, formerly the Oregon Council for the Humanities, was established in 1971 and is one of five statewide partners of the Oregon Cultural Trust.

Join us at Steeplejack Brewing from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. to chat about the state of independent magazines in 2025, meet fellow readers and writers, and share a favorite title or two from your own collection. Our director Adam Davis and board member Kim Young are on Capitol Hill this week, meeting with representatives from Oregon and sharing how our work is strengthening and supporting communities across the state. They're in DC, along with dozens of staff from humanities councils across the country who gather each year to demonstrate the everyday impacts of public humanities programs, and to advocate for funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities. Thanks to all of Oregon's federal elected officials and their staff for meeting with us, and to the Federation of State Humanities Councils for their continued support! #HumanitiesontheHill

Earlier this week, our program director Jennifer Alkezweeny and executive director Adam Davis traveled to Saipan, where they led a three-day facilitation training hosted by the Northern Marianas Humanities Council. The training focused on using reflective conversation as a tool for building trust and community across differences. Participants from Saipan and the neighboring island of Tinian came together to think about ways to explore challenging topics, gain understanding, and effectively engage diverse perspectives within their communities. It's always an honor to partner with our fellow humanities councils in connecting and strengthening communities through dialogue. Our deepest thanks to each of the participants and to the Northern Marianas Humanities Council for the invitation and warm welcome to your beautiful island! #Facilitation #CommunityConnection #DialogueAcrossDifference
