After a year of planning, the Oregon Department of Emergency Management?(OEM) hosted IronOR 24, a statewide emergency exercise. This 4-day exercise tested statewide response capabilities in the aftermath of a Cascadia Subduction Zone Earthquake (CSZ) event. ?? Building on the 2016 Cascadia Rising exercise, IronOR 24 simulated response operations from Day 4 to Day 7 post-earthquake, evaluating sustained response efforts beyond the initial 72 hours. The exercise strengthened coordination, communications, and human impact response strategies. Key goals included maintaining operational coordination, establishing redundant communication systems, and addressing human impacts. Special thanks to the Exercise Planning Team for their hard work and the innovative use of an online Storyboard tool that kept everyone informed and prepared. We also extend our gratitude to all 27 IronOR 24 exercise venues across the state, our partners playing at varying levels, and the FEMA Region 10 Regional Response Coordination Center (WA) for their invaluable participation, and of course all players, partners and evaluators! We continue to build resilience and preparedness for Oregon. #IronOR24 #EmergencyManagement #Preparedness #CascadiaResponse

???????????????? ???????????????????? ??????????????' ?????? ???? ???????????? Today, we pay tribute to the rich cultures, histories and contributions of the hundreds of thousands Indigenous peoples in Oregon; people who lived on this land for thousands of years before colonization and have demonstrated to everyone what genuine resiliency means. Did you know that each other the nine federally recognized tribes in Oregon has its own emergency manager? This is a member of the community charged with planning and coordinating emergency response in Tribal communities during disasters. They are also charged with safeguarding cultural heritage sites during disaster response. Find out who your emergency manager is on the OEM website: https://lnkd.in/gmJcixFh #IndigenousPeoplesDay #EmergencyPreparedness Photo from the Oregon Historical Society Archive: Drummers in feathered regalia at the Oregon City Centennial in 1948, from the Confederated Tribes of Umatilla, at Kelly field in Oregon City. The four people are standing around a flat drum, each holding a drum beater. This photograph was published in the Oregon Journal on Friday, August 13, 1948. PC: Monner, Al (Alfred Anthony), 1909-1998

Congratulations to one of our own!
What a blessing today to be awarded the 2024 Award for Excellence in Public Safety GIS from the NAPSG Foundation for the State category!! I would like to thank those that nominated me as well as the NAPSG board of directors for this wonderful honor! It's been such a pleasure to be a part of this community and have the ability to share lessons learned and ideas to help others and also help our own agency too. It's so important to be a part of these communities and get folks involved in our field of work. Yes, our hazards profile may be a little different, but in the end we're all doing similar work to inform our decision makers and help translate and display data in ways that are easy to understand. Once again, thank you all so much for this great honor and I look forward to working with you all as we continue improving this important work! #gis #award #emergencymanagement #PublicSafety

As part of our stakeholder engagement on GIS in emergency management, we regularly gather feedback from the GIS community on what works, what doesn't, and potential improvements. This feedback is collected annually through a GIS assessment, guiding future developments. The 2024 Oregon Emergency Management GIS Assessment, conducted by the Oregon Emergency Management GIS Interest Group (EMGIG), involved 43 members from various sectors. It identified 8 recommendations and 11 actions, covering GIS use in operations, data sharing, training, and community engagement. The findings highlight strengths and gaps in current practices, offering a roadmap for improvement. EMGIG will use this feedback to shape its 2024 action plan, focusing on collaboration, refining training, and improving real-time GIS applications and solutions. This ongoing effort aims to strengthen Oregon's emergency response and recovery capabilities. Thanks to all partners for their contributions to this assessment! https://lnkd.in/g2xXztMe

Resilient Workplaces Prepare Together Disasters and emergencies can happen anywhere, and without warning. In Oregon, we deal with wildfires, floods, heat domes, ice and snowstorms. Then there is the ever-present threat of a Cascadia Subduction Zone earthquake. It’s important for everyone to know what to do and how to care for one another. This is why Governor Tina Kotek has officially?proclaimed September as Preparedness Month in Oregon, which is in line with?FEMA’s National Preparedness Month. READ MORE: https://lnkd.in/gQPjxuRG
