All three ODF incident management teams (IMTs) came together this week for the annual IMT Training. With about 150 IMT members stationed across the state, this is the one chance they have before fire season to prepare as a group and go into the summer on the same page. ODF IMTs are comprised of specially trained and qualified personnel who together provide the type of highly adaptable and coordinated infrastructure all types of emergencies. https://lnkd.in/ggAEYxxw

Today we recognize Science Education Day and the importance of science to understanding our forests. ODF remains committed to evidence-based science to help us understand what's happening in our forests and why. This commitment to science is one reason the agency will continue to recognize Oregonians who are advancing climate-smart forestry in Oregon, including how to help forests better adapt to climate change. ODF has named La Grande as Oregon's Tree City of the Year for 2025. The largest city in Union County in NE Oregon with almost 13,000 residents, La Grande this year marks 35 years as a Tree City USA. Communities with this designation meet or exceed four criteria: ? Maintain a tree board or department ? Have a community tree ordinance ? Spend at least $2 per capita on urban forestry ? Celebrate Arbor Day each year La Grande typically engages volunteers to plant some 100 new trees in the city. It is also one of only five Oregon cities to have at least two peace trees, descendants of ones that survived the atom bombing of Hiroshima during World War II.

Landowners can prepare for emerald ash borer wiping out ash trees on their land by understanding the condition of Oregon ash stands on their property. They can then use that information to develop site-based restoration plans in anticipation of damage and to use after their ash trees are killed by EAB. OSU has a step-by-step guide for forest consultants, landowners and managers explaining how to carry out an ash inventory and monitoring system for EAB. You can find it at https://lnkd.in/gj_wT8Kg

Today is International Women’s Day, and we celebrate the incredible women in forestry! At ODF women make up more than 26.75% of our workforce, highlighting a positive shift in an industry that has historically attracted more males into the forestry industry then women. That's a great achievement! It's encouraging to see such a positive shift in an industry that has traditionally been male dominated. Increasing the representation of women in forestry not only helps create a more diverse and inclusive workforce but also brings unique perspectives and innovations to the field. Your dedication is essential in protecting and caring for our forests for generations to come. Thank you for your contributions today and every day!
