With Spring Break approaching, our coastal land and resource management partners are preparing for an influx of visitors and with them, the increased impact of more traffic on our beaches and trails. This is also prime time for wildlife, with snowy plovers beginning to nest, shorebirds migrating in large flocks, seal pups on the beaches, and elk roaming near the roads. We’re encouraging visitors to ‘Coast Like a Local,' this spring by remembering to give wildlife space – at least 50 yards, to be exact – and that means keeping dogs away, too. This week, we’ve launched an ad campaign focused on tips for keeping wildlife safe. We encourage you to share these tips with your own visitors! Help us equip everyone with the knowledge needed to navigate the coast responsibly and stay safe during spring adventures. #coastlikealocal #sustainabletourism Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gc4FhHsw

The Oregon Coast Visitors Association communications team had a great time at Travel Oregon's Oregon Media Marketplace event! We were delighted to share the Oregon Coast's sustainable outdoor and wellness experiences with event guests. From gravel biking and estuary paddling to seafare foraging and forest bathing, the Oregon Coast is a fantastic place to connect with the natural world and be restored in body and soul. Thanks to the dream team, Stacey Gunderson and Lynnee Jacks, for creating an immersive Oregon Coast experience for travel writers, journalists, and content creators who visited our space. We were lucky to have seaweed celebrity Alanna Kieffer to help us talk about regenerative Oregon Coast seafare. And thanks to the Travel Oregon communications team -- Julia Amato, Allison Keeney, Allie Gardner -- and event planner extraordinaire Vanessa Tharp -- for creating the opportunity to build and strengthen connections with travel media and within our industry.

Arica Sears testifies for HB 3568 Seafood to Schools! This bill would be a big win for the future of the local seafood industry. Arica represented us at the Capitol yesterday to share her perspective as Deputy Director, and as a local with deep community ties who understands what this would mean for the future of the coast. ?? ??
A quick trip to the Capitol yesterday to testify in support of HB 3568 Seafood to Schools! If passed, this bill would provide funding to the Oregon Coast Visitors Association to ensure school food preparers and students have the technical support to prepare fresh, local seafood. It would also offer training for future chefs in seafood butchery and preparation, while inspiring creativity in developing kid-friendly, locally sourced seafood dishes. I introduced myself not only as OCVA’s Deputy Director but as someone deeply rooted in Oregon’s coastal fishing heritage. I am a fourth-generation Tierra del Mar resident whose family has fished Pacific City waters for over a century, the soon-to-be daughter-in-law of a commercial fisherman who built his career fishing from Newport, OR to Kodiak, AK, a board member of the Pacific City Dorymen's Association working to protect historic beach access, and the proud daughter of two retired schoolteachers. For me, this type of work is personal. I care deeply about our coastal economies, our fishing industry, and the health of our students. What an honor to advocate for a program that connects all three. Grateful for the many partners who’ve helped bring us this far. I hope we can make this investment in future generations on the Oregon Coast a reality. #oregoncoast #students #seafood #economy

Big things coming for workforce development! ?? ??
??? Yesterday marked the official launch of the Oregon Coast Hospitality Industry Sector Partnership! Our team of partners from across the coast met with 30+ industry leaders at Pelican Brewing Company in Lincoln City, kicking off a critical conversation with the Institute for Networked Communities (INC) Communities on strengthening the hospitality sector. With the Oregon Coast hospitality industry projected to add nearly 40,000 jobs by 2031, this partnership is a game-changer for the region’s workforce and businesses. We’re proud to collaborate with SOWIB (Southwestern Oregon Workforce Investment Board), Northwest Oregon Works (NOW), Oregon Restaurant & Lodging Association (@oregon_rla), Oregon Hospitality Foundation (OHF), Collaborative EDO, and the Oregon Coast Visitors Association (@oregoncoast) to make this vision a reality! Stay tuned as we work together to elevate opportunities in the hospitality and leisure industry along the Oregon Coast. ?????? #OregonCoastHospitality #JobQuality #WorkforceDevelopment #StrongerTogether #HospitalityCareers

In February, for UN Tourism Resiliency Day, I had a chance to share destination climate action learnings and outlooks from the Oregon Coast Visitors Association. Our focus has been on communicating and contextualizing mitigation, adaptation and resiliency strategies on the Oregon Coast. I think this presentation gives a good overview of our strategies alongside interesting case studies and perspectives from around the globe. I'm looking forward to continuing this sort of collaboration with our international community of practice. Check out the presentation here: https://lnkd.in/gemsDGby
