At #CES2025, health tech innovators showcased the technology advancements that are addressing the current challenges in healthcare, including AI-powered diagnostics and at-home health tech solutions. In the months following CES, we have seen how these advancements are steadily gaining traction and shaping industry trends forward. Orange Biomed shares key takeaways in our recent article featuring industry insights and current market shifts: “CES Health Tech 2025: Innovation, Challenges, and the Future of Digital Health” – bit.ly/41LiESv As a global epicenter of innovation, the event provided the opportunity to learn about fellow chronic disease digital health solutions that are shifting care and prevention into the hands of patients from trailblazers such as OnMed and Withings. CES 2025 also highlighted a noticeable gap between established health tech brands and startups. While major companies consistently drive innovation, smaller startups introduce groundbreaking ideas but often get left behind due to the steep costs of commercialization. However, the future lies in building strategic partnerships with innovators like Orange Biomed that are making breakthrough advancements in #microfluidic technology, and capitalizing on South Korea’s leadership in AI and #microelectronics. In celebration of #BlackHistoryMonth, Orange Biomed spoke with Wanya Reese of Denver7 (KMGH-TV) to share our solution for overcoming disparities Black people face when testing A1C. Multiple studies show that Black people are facing struggles of getting inaccurate A1C readings. Health disparities have impacted the Black population for decades in the U.S. This live TV segment highlights Dr. Terri Richardson from the COLORADO BLACK HEALTH COLLABORATIVE who shared, "Everybody knows about Henrietta Lacks and Tuskegee, those were specifically things in our history that occurred. It's not fiction. Tuskegee went on from 1932 to 1972, where Black men with syphilis were not treated, even when it was available.” At Orange Biomed, we focus on making healthcare monitoring easier and more accessible for all populations. “We wanted to empower people to take charge of their own health, giving them accurate, convenient and reliable tools so that they can take care of their health on their own terms," Co-founder Young Chan (Luke) Jo said. This led us to develop our groundbreaking solution: OBM rapid A1c, that provides more accurate A1C readings by eliminating interferences derived from differences in hemoglobins in different races. "We wanted to provide a better solution that can be just used at their home. So this small device [is] just like glucose meter, self-glucose meters, so that you can check your condition whenever you want," said Yeaseul Park, CEO and Co-President of Orange Biomed. As we celebrate #NationalWomenInventorsMonth, Orange Biomed honors the women who were pivotal in understanding the development of diabetes and treatment methods. In 1964, Dr. Dorothy Crowfoot Hodgkin won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for solving the atomic structure for penicillin and vitamin B12. Dr. Hodgkin later would dedicate her time to developing X-ray crystallography and computing techniques that would solve the structure of insulin. Today, we recognize her impact in diabetes treatment by enabling mass production and allowing scientists to modify the structure of insulin to improve drug options. See the full list of Nobel Prize Winning Women Inventors in JDRF International's latest article: bit.ly/3QeOfW9 Orange Biomed is proud to have two female leaders: Yeaseul Park, CEO & Co-Founder and Eunyoung Park, CRO & Co-Founder, who are continuing Dr. Hodgkin's legacy by transforming diabetes care through our breakthrough OBM rapid A1c solution that is advancing microfluidic technology by performing single-cell analysis for rapid, lab-accurate results for all. In honor of #BlackHistoryMonth, Orange Biomed is shining a light on the diabetes disparities within the Black community. We encourage diabetes educators to acknowledge and address the connection between race, socioeconomic status, and health. Social determinants of health impact the prevalence, management, and overall outcomes of diabetes among Black Americans. Compared to their white counterparts, Black Americans are 60% more likely to be diagnosed with diabetes and are at an increased risk of developing diabetes complications such as heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, and lower extremity amputations. Diabetes Education Services is working to raise awareness for “Diabetes Disparities in the Black Community” and highlighting the need for culturally relevant healthcare to be accessible to Black Americans. A lack of inclusive healthcare environments within Black communities leads to lower rates of physician visits, medication adherence, and preventive care. To close these gaps in healthcare, Diabetes Education Services emphasizes the need for community-based interventions, healthcare system reforms, policy changes, and targeted public health initiatives. How can the OBM rapid A1c advance current monitoring systems? Find out in our media feature by jihoon park: bit.ly/4hEvqqV Orange Biomed Co-Founders Yeaseul Park and Unghyeon Ko are featured in Ji-hoon Park's article that highlights how we aim to make measuring HbA1c easy and accurate for anyone by overcoming current challenges such as limited patient accessibility, complex processing, refrigerated distribution and storage of reagents, and the amount of staff needed to measure accurate blood volume. OBM rapid A1c uses microfluidics technology to quickly and accurately measure glycated hemoglobin levels without any reagent preparation or complicated management. With the solution, patients can receive accurate test results from a minimal blood sample, without the need for device maintenance. In 2025, Orange Biomed is recruiting experts in licensing, strategy, and marketing, as well as PhD-level researchers to support global expansion, drive global sales, and enhance brand value. “We will open an era in which the 500 million people with diabetes around the world can use accurate glycated hemoglobin measurements to reduce their fears in preventing complications,” shared CEO Yeaseul Park. As we continue to honor #MLKJr for his ever-lasting impact on equality, Orange Biomed recognizes the challenges many Black Americans still face in receiving proper healthcare. The disproportionate impact of health issues is driven by gaps in healthcare, socioeconomic inequalities, and systemic racism. In the U.S., Black adults are 60% more likely to be diagnosed with diabetes and twice as likely to die from it compared to White adults. They're also 3x more likely to be hospitalized for diabetes-related issues and 2x more likely to undergo leg or foot amputations. To combat this, the African American Diabetes Association (AADA) is leading public health initiatives to provide increased support for Black Americans with diabetes. Cofounded by #DiabetesAdvocate Barbara King, M.ED, DVC, CFS, the organization empowers communities affected by healthcare disparities, striving for health equity for all.
