A big win in the fight against the opioid crisis! Opioid-related deaths in Orange County have dropped by 37% from 2023 to 2024. A key factor? The Opioid Navigator Teams at AdventHealth and Orlando Health! These teams connect individuals, especially those recently incarcerated, with essential resources like Medication-Assisted Treatment, housing, transportation, and even cell phones to support recovery. “This shows that our medical professionals, first responders, and the entire community are working hard to tackle the opioid crisis,” said Dr. Thomas Hall, Manager of Orange County’s Office for a Drug-Free Community. Together, we are making strides toward a healthier, stronger community!

Spotlighting Correctional Major Laurie A. Long!???? Major Long has more than 31 years of experience in Corrections that includes both jail and prison management. In 2013, she joined Orange County as a Lieutenant, was promoted to Captain in 2015 and promoted to her current role as Major in 2018. She is currently assigned as the Major for Support Operations and has more than 450 certified and civilian staff under her supervision. Her areas of responsibility include the Booking and Release Center, Transportation, Hospital, Perimeter, Booking and Release Courts, Downtown Courts, Medical Security, and Video Visitation. Major Long serves on the Executive Board of the Children’s Safety Village and oversees the Orange County Correction’s Department mentorship program and Critical Incident Support Management team. She continuously invests herself and her time into her employees and the causes that make a difference in our community. Together with Orange County Mayor Jerry L. Demings, the Orange County Mayor's Veterans Advisory Council, and Orlando VA Healthcare System, we will recognize the heart and valor of all of our Vietnam Era Veterans who were active between November 1955 and May 1975. Hear from Major General Arnold Fields, U.S. Marine Corps, who served our country for over 34 years before retiring in January 2024.
