If you see a bunch of artsy little ducks popping up around the county, it’s because we’re #duckingforthearts! ?? Yep, WE’RE RAFFLING A JEEP! We are partnering with Hillsborough Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram on Jeep’s Raffle for the Arts. Between now and December 19, we’re selling 2,500 $50 raffle tickets to win a four-door 2024 Jeep Wrangler, Bright White with Sky One–Touch? Power–Top! On Friday, December 20, an independent accounting firm will draw the winning number. If you win, you can keep the Jeep, trade it in at the dealership, or the dealership will buy it back from you. Either way, you win! Proceeds will support the Orange County Arts Alliance, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization created in partnership with the Orange County Arts Commission to further support the creative community of Orange County. Funding will support public art, local artists, and arts experiences for adults and youth throughout Orange County. 10% of proceeds will support the NC Arts Disaster Relief Fund. Promoting and Strengthening the Artistic and Cultural Development of Orange County, North Carolina.
关于我们
The Orange County Arts Commission, located in Hillsborough, NC, is an agency of Orange County government. We work to develop the arts in Orange County, North Carolina, which includes the towns of Chapel Hill, Carrboro, & Hillsborough. Our mission is to promote and strengthen the artistic and cultural development of Orange County, North Carolina. Created on February 4, 1985 by Resolution of the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC), the Orange County Arts Commission is the non-partisan countywide arts agency that provides funding and support for a broad range of high quality arts programs. Nominated by the BOCC as the Local Distributing Agent (now called Designated County Partner) and approved by the NC Arts Council in 1985, the Arts Commission awards state Grassroots Arts Program funds in Orange County, adhering to state program guidelines. The Arts Commission also awards county-funded arts grants, sponsors programs, serves as an arts information clearinghouse, and runs a multipurpose community arts space, the Eno Arts Mill. Keeping with the forward-thinking character of Orange County, the OCAC is one of very few Local Arts Agencies housed within county government within the state of North Carolina. It is funded through hotel occupancy tax collected by Orange County. Of the 3% tax allocation that funds the Chapel Hill/Orange County Visitors Bureau, approximately 10% of that allocation funds the OCAC. In 2021, a new 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, the Orange County Arts Alliance, was created to fundraise for the OCAC and the arts community as a whole.

?? It’s National Arts & Humanities Month! A perfect reminder that engaging in the arts is more than fun—it’s a health behavior. ???? ? “Arts Engagement is a Health Behavior,” is new research that shows how the arts can support mental health AND reduce mental health inequities at all levels, including ?? Reducing stress and blood pressure levels ?? Increasing connection with others ?? Elevating underrepresented voices ?? Reducing mental health stigma ? This article has also helped to inform the recent World Health Organization Arts and Health Lancet Series’ focus on discretely investigating the ways in which engagement in the arts may constitute as a health behavior.? ? This recent work is now OPEN ACCESS and FREE to download thanks to funding from the RWJ Foundation ! Our director, Katie Murray, joined 80 local leaders on this year’s Intercity Visit to Ann Arbor, MI, hosted by The Chamber for a Greater Chapel Hill-Carrboro. She hosted a panel on the thriving off-campus arts community in downtown Ann Arbor. The key takeaway? Chapel Hill can also have a thriving off-campus arts community, thanks to resources not available in Anne Arbor - state, county, and municipal funding and community leadership who understand its value. Integrating the arts into our other community priorities as an “and” not an “or” is essential to keeping our community vibrant and unique. The arts are a major factor in downtown vitality through visitor spending and add character. Our local arts agencies employ our artists, keeping them in our community, and we need both of these in our downtowns. We’re excited to work with our community partners to prioritize the arts and make some magic happen! ??
