On September 10th, 2024, Mayor Rex Richardson and the Long Beach City Council honored the inaugural graduates of our Economic Liberation Cohort. These immigrant entrepreneurs, recognized for completing our program, represent the future of our city. Special thanks to Jackie, our Economic Justice Manager, for highlighting the significant impact of the Economic Liberation Project during the council meeting. As always, a thank you to our partners in this amazing project: Pacific Gateway, UCLA Labor Center, Advocacy Chiefs LLC, and The James Irvine Foundation.

We did it! ?Lo logramos! $1.1 million for the Long Beach Justice Fund! This would not have been possible without all the community members who turned out for city council! Thank you to our community, to our coalition partners, and to everyone who made this victory possible! So proud of every single person who made a public comment tonight…thank you ?? With this investment, families in Long Beach will have the possibility of being represented in immigration court by an attorney, completely free of charge to the families. This is a great win for the city of Long Beach!

These organizations enrich our lives by focusing on health, civic engagement, career advancement, and culture in our communities. We are proud to stand alongside our Latino Giving Circle Network members who are LCF's biggest ambassadors. Together, we are investing in the grassroots leaders who are on the frontlines of the top issues facing Latino families. ORALE had an impactful week! On Wednesday, we kicked off our Leadership Academy with our new organizer Denisse and our Organizing and Program Director Erik! ?? We're uniting 25 immigrants to: ?? Harness personal experiences to challenge systemic oppression. ?? Deepen understanding of local and statewide injustices. ?? Advance advocacy and leadership skills. Goals: ?? Empower through defining and applying leadership. ?? Address critical issues facing Long Beach families and drive actionable change. ?? Engage in community advocacy and amplify local campaigns.
