At Optum Rx, we recognize the crucial role of pharmacists in caring for patients. This is why we continue to deliver programs that support independent pharmacies and the pharmacists our members count on. We have launched the Independent Pharmacy Network (IPN), which will be available to clients as an add-on to their current pharmacy network options and will provide independent pharmacies with increased reimbursement on generic and brand drugs. We are also expanding the Bridge to Health Baby program that launched in 2023 to more locations to connect even more pregnant women with critical resources, including diapers. Additionally, we have launched Bridge to Pharmacy Care, a solution that will connect members to transportation resources to and from the pharmacy if a need exists and Bridge to Wellness to support members with chronic illness, including diabetes. As an added benefit to operating at the top of their license, pharmacists will be reimbursed for successfully connecting patients to resources. It is vital that we continue expanding access to resources that address inequalities and close care gaps. Prior authorization is an important checkpoint helping patients receive coverage for safe, effective care supported by the most up-to-date clinical guidelines. But the process can add manual, time-consuming tasks to providers’ already heavy workloads. Together with our partners, Surescripts and Cleveland Clinic, we developed Optum Rx PreCheck Prior Authorization, an innovative solution that helps automate the prior authorization process for select drugs, including GLP-1s – from 8.5 hours to under 30 seconds.
