Innovation isn't impactful if it isn't affordable.? ? Optum Rx is committed to finding innovative ways to help lower the cost of drugs.
It’s no secret that we are all facing affordability challenges in health care. At Optum Rx, we have been preparing for three of the most pressing headwinds – high utilization of specialty drugs, GLP-1s, and ultra-high-cost specialty and orphan drugs – by developing and implementing several strategies and programs to help address these challenges.?? ? In the U.S., someone is infected with an?antimicrobial resistance (AMR)?organism every 11 seconds. Optum is proud to be a part of the Fleming Initiative to help reduce the consequences of AMR infection and help people live healthier lives.
Imagine a future where antimicrobial resistance (AMR) claims more lives than cancer. This could happen in just twenty-six years without prompt action. In 1928, Alexander Fleming discovered penicillin, which increased human life expectancy by 23 years. Nearly 100 years on, antibiotic resistant bacteria are on the rise. In the U.S., someone is diagnosed with AMR every 11 seconds and dies from it every 15 minutes, and this figure is only going to grow. By 2050, AMR is projected to cause more deaths than cancer, disproportionately affecting the global south and other disadvantaged populations. Last week at the United Nations General Assembly fringe sessions, we announced that Optum will be the primary data and analytics partner for the Fleming Initiative. Led by Professor the Lord Darzi of Denham OM KBE PC FRS, this initiative aims to raise awareness and develop research, technology, and policy to combat #AMR. Together, we will collaboratively find #innovative solutions to make the healthcare system better for everyone.

This collaborative program is driving impactful change and advancing care for patients. We couldn't be more excited and proud of the work done by the team.
National Cholesterol Education Month is a good time for health professionals to encourage patients to check their cholesterol levels to better understand their cardiovascular risk. Optum #LifeSciences and Amgen have created a clinical engagement model for patients with hyperlipidemia, and we’re excited to report that the program evolved in 2024 to demonstrate positive patient willingness to align with guideline-based care. https://lnkd.in/erPt6JZq
