Welcome to the A-Z Series of OptiPEx! G is for GDPR ??? At OptiPEx, we are exploring innovative sensing technologies, to collect data on on-board passenger behaviour and experience during travel. We will leverage AI/ML methods and tools to process the sensor data, extracting relevant features and actionable information to address passenger needs. ? How do we ensure that we do this in a way that prioritises preserving the privacy and the human rights of passengers? ?? OptiPEx has surveyed all regulations relevant to the project’s potential data usage, including different perspectives on personal data usage and associated regulations, such as the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR). In line with the GDPR, the OptiPEx project commits itself to only use data that is: ?? Processed lawfully, fairly and in a transparent manner in relation to the data subjects. ?? Collected for specified, explicit and legitimate purposes and not further processed in a manner that is incompatible with those purposes. ?? Adequate, relevant and limited to what is necessary in relation to the purposes for which they are processed. ?? Accurate and, where necessary, kept up to date. ?? Kept in a form which permits identification of data subjects for no longer than is necessary for the purposes for which the data is processed. ?? Processed in a manner that ensures appropriate security of the data. Welcome to the A-Zs of the OptiPEx! ??? F is for Focus Groups ?? OptiEx is analysing the different stakeholders involved in the public transport sector, including different passenger groups, service providers, and regulatory bodies. The aim of this is to identify and prioritize the diverse needs, expectations, and challenges the stakeholder groups face in terms of passenger experience, safety, and inclusivity. ?? Focus groups were one of the methods used to collect the information necessary to shape adaptive and interactive transport services. They were conducted in Austria, Finland, Germany, and Spain, and included members from all the user groups that OptiPEx has identified. ?? The implementation of these focus groups marks the completion of the first two phases of the co-creation process. ?? It is through this important activity, and others, that OptiPEx can ensure that the technologies we are delivering are inclusive of the needs of all public transport users. Today we take a moment to celebrate International Women's Day 2025 at OptiPEx! ?? In OptiPEx, we aim to improve the passenger experience of all public transport users, including women. There are many challenges that arise in using public transport that OptiPEx aims to address, some of which disproportionately affect women. These include: ?? Antisocial behaviours, such as gender-based harassment ?? Difficulty onboarding with large objects We will address these challenges, and more, through the innovative solutions that we are developing! Welcome to the A-Zs of the OptiPEx! E is for Ethics ?? The ethics, security, and privacy, in public transport services that involve passengers, is a central concern for the OptiPEx project. ?? A thorough assessment of ethical considerations, as well as safety and security risks in PT systems, will be done in collaboration with the OptiPEx Advisory Board. This will cover physical, operational, cyber, and ethical threats for different service ideas. ?? The project will conduct a thorough survey of all regulations relevant to OptiPEx, including the GDPR, the EU’s Ethics Guidelines for Trustworthy AI, and the EU’s recommendations on the Ethics of Connected and Automated Vehicles. ?? A risk assessment for AI use within OptiPEx will also be conducted to ensure alignment with EU's AI Act in the development of our innovative guide technologies. The security requirements of relevant authorities will be considered too.
