Interview Tough Love Series: #2 - The Technical Check
Before you hit "join" on that virtual interview, check your tech. It’s not just about what you say; it’s about how you present yourself.
?? Test Your Equipment
The last thing you want is technical difficulties when you're in the hot seat. Test your camera, microphone, and internet connection well before the interview. Make sure your camera is at eye level, your lighting is good, and your background is clean and distraction-free. A solid technical setup shows you're professional and prepared.
?? Check Your Audio
Clear communication is key, and you don’t want your interviewer straining to hear you. Test your audio settings, and use headphones if necessary to avoid feedback or echo. Ensure your mic is working well and that there’s no background noise that could distract from the conversation.
?? Ensure Strong Internet Connection
A stable internet connection is non-negotiable. Before the interview, check that your Wi-Fi is strong, or use an Ethernet cable for the best connection. If you’re in a spotty area, consider relocating to ensure you won’t be cutting in and out during the interview.
?? Bottom Line: Technical issues are the last thing you want to worry about during an interview. Take a few minutes to set up and test everything in advance—your future self will thank you.
