Dr. Ronald McNair was a renowned physicist specializing in laser technology and was one of just 35 individuals selected by NASA from a pool of 10,000 applicants in 1984. He made history as the second African American to travel into space, serving as a mission specialist on the Space Shuttle Challenger.?? Tragically, the Challenger mission ended shortly after launch from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Dr. McNair's legacy inspires future generations in science, technology, and space exploration.??

Dr. Patricia Bath, a pioneer in ophthalmology and laser science, is best known for inventing the Laserphaco Probe, which transformed cataract surgery. She made history as the first African American to complete a residency in ophthalmology and the first African American female doctor to receive a medical patent.?? Additionally, Dr. Bath was the first female ophthalmologist to join UCLA’s Jules Stein Eye Institute faculty. Her groundbreaking contributions have left an enduring impact on medicine and eye care!??
