October 8/9th. There was a fantastic vibe of collaboration in the room, at least that is what I detected. From September 22 to 26, I had the opportunity to be part of the Optica’s Student Leadership 2024 program and attend the Frontiers in Optics + Laser Science (FiO+LS) conference, where I presented the poster “All-fiber generation of fractional vortex beams”. The Student Leadership was an outstanding, inspiring and fantastic event, with useful professional workshops such as “Write a great proposal by thinking like an engineer”, “Crafting a Compelling Research Portfolio” and “Presentation Design and Delivery”, which I attended; these and all the other activities provided an excellent opportunity to connect with amazing people, share experiences, initiatives and learn from each other. Furthermore, OPTICA gave us a gift, an amazing tool for us as PhD students to navigate this journey of milestones and find our path to make an impact, the book “It Goes without Saying. Taking the Guesswork Out of Your PhD in Engineering” by Caroline Boudoux. During those days and activities of Student Leadership and FiO+LS, I had the opportunity to meet with OPTICA ambassadors Ana Karen Reyes, Angeles Camacho, Gavrielle Untracht, Kasia Komolibus and Rodrigo Benevides, who were always open to talk and engage in interesting and stimulating conversations. Meeting researchers, ambassadors and others students with similar interests and ideas made the event a more enriching experience.
