Some weeks are quiet, heads-down in learning about community needs, and exploring ways to make an impacts - other weeks (like this one) are non-stop, meeting new community leaders, meetings with clients, and collaborating with others while traveling through multiple cities. Office progress ???? The mezzanine steel is going up and the concrete stadium seating is in! The concrete stadium seating will amplify the natural divide between our sunken "conversation pit" style meeting space and the relaxed co-working / collaborative work area. The mezzanine will be Tessa Commercial Real Estate LLC's headquarters, consisting of 5 private offices, a phone room, & a small open-air meeting area. OPAL visited Foley to look in on our "Cottages at Wyld Palms" BTR development! This project comprises 103 workforce housing townhome units, sits ~8 miles from The Hangout in Gulf Shores, and is at the furthest point of the most southern OZ in Alabama. It is happening ?? OPAL is excited to FINALLY announce that we, along with Tessa Commercial Real Estate LLC, are redeveloping the first floor of the former Burger Phillips department store at 1914 3rd Ave N to serve as our new home offices and headquarters! OPAL Investments, a subsidiary of Opportunity Alabama, is the lead equity investor in this historic revitalization project. Tessa and OPAL were drawn to this project as a way to invest in Birmingham’s Central Business District while creating new space for our innovative, impact-oriented companies to grow and collaborate. OPAL is ecstatic to support the Fuse Project team & take part in what is poised to be the cornerstone of progress on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue in Mobile, AL! The Branch | On the Avenue aims to bring 300+ new mixed-income housing, student housing, and retail opportunities to the community and revitalize the Historic Avenue. The City of Mobile, AL, the Mobile Housing Authority, Bishop State Community College, and many others are key partners in this upcoming multi-phase project. Stay tuned for updates!

We are proud to be the mezzanine debt provider on Front Row - this Huntsville project will turn the weedy lot across from the von Braun Center into the single biggest mixed-use project that downtown has ever seen!

Our Reimagine Development Partners (RDP) partners have launched the Community Real Estate Academy (CREA) in two Alabama communities, Selma and Demopolis. This cohort-structured program is free, taught in person and online by Tulane University’s Sustainable Real Estate Master Program faculty and other prominent real estate professionals, to give local developers, property owners, and community members the knowledge and support to develop real estate projects across the Black Belt. We are grateful to have the expertise of the?RDP?team building development capacity and scaling impactful projects in Alabama and are partnering with them on program evaluation.
