Celebrating our Founder's birthday!
Today marks the 102nd birthday of our founder, Rev. Dr. Leon H. Sullivan. Dr. Sullivan was a social activist, civil rights leader and Baptist minister whose work spanned the globe. He was the first African-American to sit on a Fortune 500 board (General Motors); wrote the Sullivan Principles, which helped lead many companies to divest from South Africa; and founded Progress Plaza in Philadelphia - the first African-American-owned mall. As the founder of OIC of America and OIC International, he was responsible for job training that reached millions of people around the world. In today's Philadelphia Inquirer, Dr. Sullivan's granddaughter writes about him and his wife, Grace Banks Sullivan: "Both of them were children of the Jim Crow era, with every odd stacked viciously against them, and yet they managed to change the world together." We are honored and humbled to carry Dr. Sullivan's legacy today, as we ignite the movement for economic power. https://lnkd.in/egTCw4Dv
