ORN celebrates social workers throughout March and beyond. From providing critical support and education to developing innovative solutions for individuals with opioid, stimulant, and other substance use disorders, social workers are true heroes. Special shoutout to our partners at the National Association of Social Workers who lead this awareness month, the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) for their commitment to advancing excellence and innovation in social work education and research, and AMERSA for equipping social workers with the knowledge and skills needed to support individuals across the continuum of care. To all the incredible social workers making a difference for those with SUD: Thank you for showing how #CompassionPlusAction saves lives! ?? #OpioidResponseNetwork #SubstanceUseDisorder #SWMonth2025 #SocialWorkMonth

Happening tomorrow!
Join the Recovery Research Institute of Massachusetts General Hospital for the upcoming ORN webinar, “Improving Treatment of Opioid Use Disorder in Youth,” on Tuesday, March 26 from 12:00-1:00 pm EST. While there is considerable evidence and broad expert consensus for the use of medications for OUD (MOUD) as the standard of care for the treatment of OUD in youth, uptake has been limited, and adherence and retention are problematic. As part of the new Recovery Science Series, this presentation will review barriers to optimum outcomes in adolescents and young adults with OUD, as well as approaches for overcoming them. In particular, this presentation will discuss developmentally-informed treatment strategies, including family involvement. ?? New Explainer Video on Use of Xylazine and Treatment and Care for Patients with Associated Wounds Take a little time to learn about the treatment and care for patients with wounds as a result of the use of xylazine. This new video was developed by the Columbia University Medical Center Department of Psychiatry Division on Substance Use Disorders (Columbia Psychiatry) in partnership with ORN to help address the occurrence of wounds in people who use drugs, especially due to xylazine adulteration of the drug supply. This video provides a background on xylazine, the basics of wound healing, information on successful community outreach programs and educational resources for treatment. Watch here: https://lnkd.in/eDz3JxdD If you are interested in free education and/or trainings on this topic, use the “Submit a Request” form at OpioidResponseNetwork.org. It's a simple form and within one business day we will be in touch to learn more about your needs. #ColumbiaPsychiatry #OpioidResponseNetwork #SubstanceUseDisorder #WoundCare

A few years ago, we worked with Jason Bienert RN CWCN in delivering a training on Xylazine during an Opioid Response Network summit in Philadelphia. His presentation was widely received as the adulteration of Xylazine proliferated in our region. Recently, a Xylazine and Treatment and Care for Patients with Associated Wounds explainer video was released by the ORN, and featured Jason and his work in helping to provide wound care through his outreach. I'm inspired by him and the people like him who are literally helping to heal the wounds of people in our communities. If you do take the time to watch this 12 minute video, be forewarned that there are some graphic images. https://lnkd.in/euaTQPfW
