I see it all the time. Whenever a Research firm needs to cut expenses, they quickly jump to their sample spend and start playing hardball with vendors on their rates. I get it. Those companies are super profitable, right? Often overlooked are 2 things- 1- This cut in sample prices often (negatively) impacts sample composition (and quality). 2- Sample is often not the biggest cost center anyway. The biggest impact on an MRX company P&L? ?????????? ?????????? The firms that win for the long term have a discipline of exploring how their talent can work smarter.
