Greater long-term blood pressure (BP) variability is associated with faster visual field loss, especially for patients with high mean BP and intraocular pressure (IOP), according to a JAMA Ophthalmology report. The study’s authors suggest that blood pressure variability may be a modifier of the association between IOP and visual field loss in patients in glaucoma. #AAO2024: For White and non-Hispanic/Latino patients, dry eye disease (DED) is affiliated with more severe clinical signs compared with patients of Black or Latino ancestry, although symptoms were similar across all groups included in the Dry Eye Assessment and Management (DREAM Study; https://bit.ly/48y4wNV Identifier: NCT02128763), according to an analysis presented at the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s annual meeting, held October 18-21 in Chicago. The investigators suggested a potential discordance between signs and symptoms among DREAM Study participants from minority racial and ethnic groups. Catherine Shen, a medical student with the Penn Medicine, University of Pennsylvania Health System, presented the current study’s research with co-authors Jocelyn He, MS, Penny Asbell, MD, FACS, and Gui-shuang Ying, MD, PhD. Thank you Bill Kekevian and Ophthalmology Advisor for publishing your interview with me regarding the Ocular Therapeutix, Inc. data I presented at the American Academy of Ophthalmology meeting last month. This Phase 1 data showing efficacy and durability informed the ongoing Phase 3 programs seeing to register OTX-TKI as a less-burdensome option for neovascular #maculardegeneration. This is a lovely in-depth article and includes both the OTX data as well as the EyePoint Pharmaceuticals DAVIO 2 data presented by Carl Regillo with comments from Yasha Modi, work from Diana Do with Regeneron's EYLEA HD? (aflibercept) Injection HCP PHOTON trial, and results from Jeremiah Brown's impactful ELEVATUM data. I am especially excited about the ELEVATUM data, since it enrolled exclusively Black, Hispanic, Native America or Pacific Islander patients, all of whom are typically underrepresented in clinical science, and treated their diabetic eye disease with Genentech's VABYSMO? (faricimab-svoa). Please have a look below! https://lnkd.in/ejNzrn5k
