Temple faculty, together with their friends and families, had an incredible time supporting our Temple Owls at the men’s basketball home opener from the Temple Health suite! Not only did we get to enjoy a thrilling game and great company, but the team also brought home a WIN! ?? It was fantastic to see faculty coming together to show our Temple pride and connect outside of the academic setting. Thanks to Temple Health for hosting us – it was the perfect way to kick off the season. Here’s to more victories and unforgettable moments this season!

Today, we shine the spotlight on Dr. Tanise Branche, Assistant Professor, Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Sciences. “Being a woman in medicine, particularly as an OBGYN, holds deep personal and professional significance for me,” says Dr. Branche. “It means more than just providing care—it’s about fostering trust, building relationships, and creating safe spaces where my patients, many of whom are from underserved communities, feel heard, respected, and supported.” “As a minority physician, I understand the importance of cultural competency, not just as a concept, but as a lived reality that shapes how I approach patient care. I recognize that for many of my patients, this is often one of the most pivotal moments in their lives, whether they’re welcoming a child or facing health challenges. Understanding the unique cultural, social, and emotional contexts that shape my patients’ experiences is essential in delivering truly patient-centered care. It’s about recognizing that their stories, backgrounds, and health needs are inseparable from the care I provide.” “When I walk into an exam room, I’m acutely aware that I’m not just offering medical expertise—I’m offering reassurance, partnership, and, most importantly, trust. Patients entrust me with their care, and it’s my responsibility to make them feel safe, respected, and empowered to be active participants in their health journey. In teaching the next generation of physicians, I place a strong emphasis on the value of these relationships. Collaborative care is not just a skill; it’s an art that requires sensitivity, empathy, and cultural humility. As a minority woman in medicine my forever goal is to care for my patients in a way that my students and residents see that, by building trust and focusing on the cultural and emotional nuances of care, they will not only improve health outcomes but also transform the experiences of their patients in ways that go beyond medicine.”
