?? Reality Check: Over-servicing underpaying clients will not make them pay you more. I learned this the hard way. Last year, I kept thinking, "If I just go above and beyond, they'll see my value and eventually pay me more." Spoiler: They didn't. Instead, I nearly burned myself out, lost my team, and sabotaged my own sustainable growth because I was too busy trying to prove my worth to people who were never going to pay for it. And I know I'm not the only one. Last week, someone told me they wanted to put this on a t-shirt: "Don't over-service cheap clients." (Low-key, should I start wearing this to sales calls?) Because here's the thing, this mistake cost me so much more than time and energy. It was my biggest, hardest lesson learned of 2024. And now that I've (mostly) processed it ???? ... I'm sharing the full story in this month's Tea Time ?? One Thursday a month, I spill one major lesson I wish I'd learned sooner - so you don't have to learn the way I did. If you want the unfiltered breakdown of how this mistake nearly broke my business (and what I'm doing differently now), the first way to read it is through my newsletter. Check the link in my bio! Or, you know, what until the LinkedIn article drops. But this is one of those lessons that pays off the sooner you put it into practice. #Accounting #Sales #SmallBusiness

Burnout isn't a personal problem. It's a business model flaw. ?? "Retention is a problem." ?? "People don't want to work." ?? "It's just part of the job." We disagree. I sat down with Randy Crabtree to break this down - why firms keep burning out their best people and what actually works instead. ?? Watch this quick clip, then listen to the full episode here: https://lnkd.in/enN7dJGz
?? Chief Reality Officer (Fractional COO) to Accountants & Service Providers | Founder of Operations House | Board Member
6 days. That's how long it took from meeting Randy to recording this podcast together. I started Operations House because I saw what burnout was doing to our industry and our people. It's not just stress. This is systemic dysfunction disguised as "the way things have always been done." And it's bullsh**. So when I met Randy and saw how aligned we were on fixing this, not just talking about it, it was an instant YES to jump on his podcast. In 30 minutes, we unpack: ?? Why "busy season" is a business model flaw, not a rite of passage ?? How psychological safety (not perks) leads to better retention & profitability ?? The wild impact of our Professional Pep Talk experiment (yes, we're still doing them!) Listen here: https://lnkd.in/emAg_R5j #Accounting #MentalHealth #OpsHouseInsights

We saw this online trend where people asked ChatGPT, "What would surprise people about me?" It did not hesitate ?? "You have the energy of a cult leader (but for good, not evil)." No notes. Completely accurate. #JoinOurCult #PsychologicalSafety #SmallBusiness

When I say with confidence, "There is an ROI on treating your humans better," it's not just a feel-good statement. It's backed by numbers. I've seen it. I've proved it. I've implemented it at other firms. And now? I'm building my firm the same way. Because people-first businesses aren't just the right way to build. They're profitable, too. ?? Accountants and service providers, if closing out 2024 has your team feeling disconnected, drained, or leaving you wondering how things could be better - let's talk.

LinkedIn can be a magical place - this month's magic was provided by Ashley Carroll of Operations House. I took her up on their offer of a free, personalized pep talk but then started looking into what Operations House - and Ashley - were all about... They are support for ACCOUNTING FIRMS in terms of operations, teams/dynamics and all sorts of other things - they are truly talking my language SO. MUCH. This post I'm sharing gives a taste of what they do but I also reaaaaaally wanted to share a post that included the thoughts of one of Ashley's team members - their focus on culture is completely inspiring!!! The word needs to get out on them - I'm thinking a comparison on the ROI of the investment in Operations House vs. another piece of tech stack might be staggeringly one-sided ??
What if the answer you need isn't a new tool but a shift in perspective? #SmallBusiness #Accountability #OpsHouseInsights
