On Wednesday, February 12, Chief Advancement Officer, Roxanna Booth, spoke at an information session for the Canton Greater Together Community Fund at the Canton Library/Community Center. ??? As one of two organizations invited, Roxanna shared how the fund supported 20 households in Canton, assisting 34 individuals—including 9 children, 12 elderly, and 4 with disabilities. She highlighted that 80% of applicants were women, with over $8,212 spent in the town. The Canton Greater Together Community Fund awarded us $5,000 and encouraged us to apply for additional funds to meet the growing need. ??

In just 32 days, 5,038 households applied for emergency energy assistance from Operation Fuel! While we are still processing submitted applications, this is a powerful reminder of how many Connecticut households rely on support to keep their access to power and heat. In the past, we were able to keep the program open for most of year but due to the increasing demand, funding is exhausted faster. Our Community Research team has been hitting the ground to listen, learn, and better understand the energy needs of affordable housing residents. Their feedback helps us advocate to improve building energy systems. An energy-resilient building isn’t just about efficiency, it’s about ensuring families have heat, cooling, fresh air, clean water, and comfort, even during severe weather or power outages ?

Our Programs team has been working hard to support our neighbors in need! ?? Since opening applications for energy assistance, we've received nearly 2,500 applications, with almost 1,800 coming in during the first week ALONE. This overwhelming response shows how critical this support is for households struggling with energy costs!

Watch as our Chief Program & Policy Officer, Gannon Long, testifies in support of bill HB 6777, "An Act Concerning Water Utility and Water Quality and Treatment Surcharges", advocating for fair water utility policies and transparency in surcharges. This bill addresses water quality, treatment surcharges, and is crucial for protecting Connecticut households from being burdened with unpredictable water costs ??
