Today, we are offline celebrating Juneteenth. Here are some things we are reading, watching, and listening to in celebration of Black voices.
The Warmth of Other Suns, by Isabel Wilkerson, recommended by Director of Project Management Kara Nic and Friend-of-the-Tent Chris McCullough:
"I just started Isabel Wilkerson's?The Warmth of Other Suns, which chronicles the Great Migration, the movement of almost 6 million Black Americans out of the South to the Midwest/Northeast/West during the twentieth century. She even discusses Juneteenth itself - how these families brought that tradition/celebration with them from the South to the North. "

The Idea of You, by Robinne Lee (also on Netflix!), recommended by COO Sara Habib:

"I devoured this book and loved the Netflix adaptation! I also enjoyed reading this article about the author's journey in creating this story, which includes struggling to sell a different book with a Black female protagonist. https://lnkd.in/gT9gESK7 "
Between the World and Me, by Ta-Nehisi Coates recommended by Senior Solutions Engineer Angie P.
https://lnkd.in/g4bJDqM
"Between the World and Me is written as a letter from Ta-Nehisi to his son, sharing his perspective on growing up as a black male in America. It serves as a space for him and so many others to have their fears, frustrations, joys and hopes seen and heard, and it's helped me gain clarity on my own role and responsibilities in a society that continues to overlook and undermine these experiences. Every time I see this book on my shelf, it also reminds me to seek out opportunities to listen and learn from others' experiences, because it's so easy to limit ourselves to our truly tiny personal "bubble" of a world view".
What Becomes of the Brokenhearted, by E. Lynn Harris, recommended by Senior Project Manager Cornita N. Robinson, MPA

"As an individual who crosses many intersectionalities, I thoroughly enjoyed reading the memoir of E. Lynn Harris as a young adult...
On another note, my wife is an elementary school interventionist, and here are a few book series that her students love!"
