Supporting and growing OpenStreetMap in the US.
关于我们
This is the US chapter of OpenStreetMap, the free, open-source map of the world created by volunteers all over the globe. We support the OpenStreetMap project in the United States through education, fostering awareness, ensuring broad availability of data, continuous quality improvement, and an active community. OpenStreetMap gives ordinary citizens the power and the tools to create a high-quality feature-rich map of their country, their states, their communities and their neighborhoods. Because the map data is free, anyone can use it to create maps for themselves, their businesses, their schools, their local governments or any other purpose they wish. More than that, OpenStreetMap US is an organization anyone can join to connect with other mappers or institutional data users. Our members range from mapping enthusiasts who want to contribute their knowledge of their local communities to geodata experts who bring technical skills to the creation of the map and professional users who leverage OpenStreetMap data commercially.

OSMnx version 2.0.0 has been released! ?? This has been a massive effort over the past year to streamline the package's API, re-think its internal organization, and optimize its code. Today OSMnx is faster, more memory efficient, and fully type-annotated for a better user experience. If you haven't used it before, OSMnx is a Python package to easily download, model, analyze, and visualize street networks and any other geospatial features from OpenStreetMap. You can download and model walking, driving, or biking networks with a single line of code then quickly analyze and visualize them. You can just as easily work with urban amenities/points of interest, building footprints, transit stops, elevation data, street orientations, speed/travel time, and routing. Get started here: https://lnkd.in/gchKgTDm On a personal note, this has now been a labor of love for me for about 9 years. Wow. I initially developed this package to enable the empirical research for my dissertation. Since then, it has powered probably 2/3 of the articles I've published over the years. And it has received hundreds of contributions from many other code contributors. Thank you to everyone who helped make this possible. I hope you find the package as useful as I do. Now I'm looking forward to all your bug reports ??

Loading the World! OpenStreetMap Import In Under 4 Hours Advancements in hardware, Postgres, and software are making large data loads easier than ever. Greg Smith has a new blog on loading OpenStreetMap in record time. The full world OpenStreetMap import is a notoriously big process to run in a Postgres database. Folks often plan on a full 24 hour process. Greg has it running in 4 hours! Pretty impressive. He's improved several hours just in the last few Postgres releases. Check out all the details in our blog today: https://lnkd.in/gFQAPUbm

I spent a couple hours with Anthropic #Claude to whip up a welcome page for new #OpenStreetMap contributors. It uses the #Anthropic #API to parse their first map contribution and say something nice about it!

If you do any geospatial work in Texas, or want to see a legit mapping community in action the Texas GIS Forum is a must. Marcie Hogan and I attended last week to demonstrate the power of open mapping with Mapillary, OpenStreetMap Foundation, and Overture Maps Foundation. In 1997 the Texas Senate passed a bill to "develop consistent statewide digital data layers" and 25 years later they've managed to build and maintain some of the largest and most detailed statewide datasets. https://lnkd.in/eiNSKY43 I walked away with great collaboration ideas with City of Austin Brystin Herbeck, ACC Sally Holl, New Braunfels Patricia Flores White, and more. Let's make great maps together!

Interesting work by GrabMaps, #SOTMUS2025 sponsor ?? ?? ??
We've been doing some really good work with the OpenAI team and this is one example of it. GrabMaps are core to how efficiently our services run, how productive we can help our drivers to be, and how reliably we can serve our users. So we're constantly looking at how we can do mapping better. Using the latest GPT4o vision fine-tuning capabilities have led to 20% improvements for our maps in Lane Count accuracy and 13% in speed sign localization. It's been a great partnership with lots of positive energy between the Grab and OpenAI teams, and many more cool stuff to come! Stay tuned.
