Supporting and growing OpenStreetMap in the US.
关于我们
This is the US chapter of OpenStreetMap, the free, open-source map of the world created by volunteers all over the globe. We support the OpenStreetMap project in the United States through education, fostering awareness, ensuring broad availability of data, continuous quality improvement, and an active community. OpenStreetMap gives ordinary citizens the power and the tools to create a high-quality feature-rich map of their country, their states, their communities and their neighborhoods. Because the map data is free, anyone can use it to create maps for themselves, their businesses, their schools, their local governments or any other purpose they wish. More than that, OpenStreetMap US is an organization anyone can join to connect with other mappers or institutional data users. Our members range from mapping enthusiasts who want to contribute their knowledge of their local communities to geodata experts who bring technical skills to the creation of the map and professional users who leverage OpenStreetMap data commercially.

Sponsoring #StateoftheMapUS is a meaningful way to give back to the #OpenStreetMap community AND a great way to connect with the open geospatial ecosystem in the U.S. Plus the conference is fun! ?? https://lnkd.in/evcQZctr

#30DayMapChallenge Day 20 — Data: OSM ?? Today’s highlight comes from Mapboxer Kuan Butts, who presented a lightning talk titled "Lines vs Lanes: Modeling Complex Lane Fanning" at the OpenStreetMap US 2024 SotM US. Kuan delved into the nuances of mapping and modeling traffic in complex lane configurations at major toll plazas on highways. See his full talk here: https://lnkd.in/gXfWmbuU #BuiltWithMapbox #SOTMUS2024 #osm

Happy Geospatial Day! To celebrate I created new Walkabout projects for Atlanta, DC, Norfolk, and Phoenix. If you live in a city, work in a city, or like visiting cities and navigate on foot you should take a moment to help improve pedestrian data in one of these places. https://lnkd.in/esPZm9tZ Shout out to OpenStreetMap US for maintaining the platform that makes these projects possible! ??? Happy Mapping ???

If you've used Apple Maps or Google Maps, you've probably benefited from lane guidance: "Take the right two lanes to..." Enhancing maps to support this level of guidance is something major mapping companies have spent years on. What may not know is that #OpenStreetMap has very good lane data as well. How does OSM get this data? Same way it gets all its data: tireless volunteer mappers working together to create the amazing free map data we have today. Without OSM, projects like #Overture would not exist. My tasking orchestration tool, #MapRoulette, has been around for over a decade to enable laser focused OSM mapping projects, like adding lane attributes. If you want to know more about what MapRoulette can do, or if you're already using it and have ideas, I would love to hear from you!

Engaging communities to take action for developmental change and impact ????| Collective Power Facilitation ??| Open Collaboration?? | Diversity, Equity and Inclusion?????? | Events Organizing??| Volunteer Management??
A month after the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the OpenStreetMap Foundation (OSMF), me and my 2024 co-board members, Craig Allan, Daniela Waltersdorfer Jimenez, Mateusz, Roland and Sarah are grateful to deliver our Collective Board Report for the 2024 Year of the OSMF. In this collective report, we share and document what happened in 2024, celebrate achievements, be transparent about our challenges, and recommend improvements to progress OSMF mission. I'd like to also mention the collaborative process and inclusion of diverse perspective that we put in our work together as a Board and documented in this written report. I love this excerpt from the #CollectivePower Playbook (https://lnkd.in/gsBtUD96): "By working together, we can achieve more and benefit more than alone. Collective power means shared ownership of outcomes, lessening the likelihood of failure and benefit for many rather than the few." # Personal reflection When I decided to run for OSMF Board in 2022, my main agenda were to improve representation and ensure that community agenda is at the table. Looking back, I put 4 focus areas in my manifesto (https://lnkd.in/gniHux5C), and shared updates for and shifting prioritization after my first year as board member (https://lnkd.in/gYi9KK6E). This year, I focused my board duties on the OSMF Membership Campaign, being the Board liaison to the Membership WG, and revising State of the Map (SotM) pages. Along the road, I went through a major life change and so I needed to deprioritize and shift focus again. I decided not to re-run in the Board, and continue to contribute to the SotM WG and Local Chapters and Communities WG (LCCWG). My hope for the OSMF is continue to push for gender and geographic representation and inclusive participation in leadership spaces as well as increase transparency and commitment to open collaboration among its board, members and the community. #OpenStreetMap #OSMF #OpenStreetMapFoundation #BoardLeadership #WomeninLeadership https://lnkd.in/gfb6tHyz

Great story on how Detroit is leveraging @Mapillary at scale by my colleague Marcie Hogan. Why don't all cities do this?
Ever wondered where the best Mapillary coverage is? Look no further than Detroit, Michigan! The city has covered over 99.8% of all its roads with over 12.7 million images—and they're capturing all of the imagery themselves. Read our latest blog post to learn more about Detroit's impressive in-house street level imagery program: https://lnkd.in/e_DsPkJP Many thanks to Tamara Fant and Ted Schultz for sharing Detroit's story!
