Last week, we launched the Lao Digital Farmer Registry Pilot, a collaboration between OpenSPP and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MAF) in Lao PDR, with the support of Co-Develop. Building on the success of the proof of concept under the Partnerships for Irrigation and Commercialization of Smallholder Agriculture (PICSA) project, this pilot marks a critical step toward establishing dynamic registries as a building block for Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) within the agricultural sector. At the launch event, co-chaired by Ms. Bounthiene Vongkaysone, Deputy Director General of the Department of Irrigation, MAF, Ms. Rachele Arcese, Programme Officer for the Mekong Multi-Country Office at IFAD, and Dr. Phommy Inthichack, Deputy Director General of the Department of Planning and Cooperation, MAF, we discussed how this initiative will drive progress in data integration, supporting effective resource allocation and agricultural program consolidation. By developing a comprehensive, integrated farmer database (50,000 households), the registry will improve decision-making, foster resilience against climate challenges, and pave the way for future interoperability with other government services and innovative solutions. We’re looking forward to seeing the positive impacts this project will have on Lao PDR's agricultural sector and the communities it supports. #DigitalFarmerRegistry #DPG4DPI #DPG #DPI #LaoPDR #TechForGood

Announcing a Major Milestone for OpenSPP: The Lao Digital Farmer Registry We are excited for the next step of the Lao Digital Farmer Registry toward transforming agricultural management in Lao PDR. Initially developed under the PICSA project, co-funded by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the Lao Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, this pilot phase will benefit 50,000 farmers across the country. By consolidating data from projects focused on irrigation, climate resilience, nutrition, and sustainable agriculture, the registry enhances the Ministry’s ability to respond to rural needs. This centralized platform will enable better tracking of farm holdings and households, providing valuable insights to inform policy decisions, improve support to farmers, and ensure more effective resource allocation. Built on open-source technology, the registry is designed for interoperability with other services. It’s the first Digital Public Good (#DPG) in Lao PDR's agricultural sector, setting the foundation for smarter, data-driven decision-making and integration with other public services and private sector innovation. Our recent participation in the Global DPI Summit in Cairo highlighted the registry’s significance, where it was showcased as an exemplar Digital Public Infrastructure (#DPI) story. Dr. Phommy Inthichack, Deputy Director General of the Department of Planning and Cooperation, MAF, and Dr. Xaybandith Rasphone, Member of Parliament, presented our work, emphasizing its potential to enhance the efficiency of agricultural policymaking and program delivery. One of its key features is integration with GIS technology, allowing precise mapping, spatial analysis, and monitoring of agricultural activities. This will improve food security forecasting and climate resilience efforts by providing actionable insights. This pilot, funded by Co-Develop, will officially launch on October 23rd, alongside key partners from IFAD and FAO. Feel free to reach out to us for more information. #DigitalFarmerRegistry #DPG4DPI #DPG #DPI #LaoPDR #TechForGood

The #GlobalDPISummit in Cairo, where 101 countries were represented, was a fantastic opportunity to connect with leaders and innovators engaged in driving impactful Digital Public Infrastructure (#DPI) and building Digital Public Goods (#DPGs). OpenSPP was honored to be accompanied by Dr. Phommy Inthichack and Dr. Xaybandith Rasphone from Lao PDR, who presented our collaboration in piloting the Lao Digital Farmer Registry, highlighted among the DPI exemplar stories during the Summit. Greg Martel participated as a panelist in a session moderated by Liv Marte Nordhaug, CEO of the Digital Public Goods Alliance Secretariat. The discussion focused on how DPGs contribute to building DPI. Alongside Edward Cable from the Mifos Initiative, Annina Wersun from OpenCRVS, Gabi Adotevi, MBA from Modular Open Source Identity Platform (MOSIP), and Paula Hunter from the Mojaloop Foundation, Greg highlighted how OpenSPP helps build local capacity and engages with governments to design and build systems adapted to their specific needs, ensuring purpose and impact through scalability, interoperability, and inclusivity. The session concluded with the announcement that UN Women is joining the Digital Public Goods Alliance (#DPGA). Jeremi Joslin, OpenSPP Executive Director, Dasun Hegoda, Chief Evangelist, and Michel Mouchiroud, in charge of Partnerships and Engagement, led key exchanges at the OpenSPP booth and in meetings and sessions, demonstrating the added value of building dynamic registries that allow interoperability and integration with other systems to enhance the impact of social benefits and other government services. Key Takeaways: - Open-source innovation: DPGs are building solutions with people in mind, creating adaptable, scalable solutions that add value and promote inclusivity and accessibility. - Collaborative ecosystems: Partnerships between governments, the private sector, and civil society are vital for building sustainable DPI. - Locally driven: Participation and capacity must be built and driven locally to ensure the engagement of government bodies and key stakeholders in developing meaningful, sustainable digital solutions. A special thank you to Garikai Nhongo, MCIM and his team, as well as the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), Egypt, Co-Develop, and all the organizers for the exceptional event and warm hospitality. Looking forward to the next summit and continuing our collaborative efforts! #GlobalDPISummit2024 #DPI #DPG #DPG4DPI #DigitalTransformation #OpenSource

?? Introducing Newlogic Copilot for Odoo and OpenSPP! ?? At OpenSPP, we've been leveraging AI to enhance our productivity and development processes. A year ago, our first public proof of concept demonstrated a tool that converts text into targeting criteria within our SP-MIS. With the increasing adoption of OpenSPP, we've recognized the need to simplify its customization. While OpenSPP's foundation on Odoo makes it highly flexible, the learning curve can be steep when you start from scratch. This inspired us to collaborate with the Newlogic team working on AI to develop a tool that accelerates and streamlines development based on their Copilot for Odoo. It won't do everything, but our focus is on common customizations first. ? Meet Newlogic Copilot ? Although this is just the beginning, the results are already impressive. Newlogic Copilot helps you create new OpenSPP modules, add custom fields and logic, update views and security rules, deploy code, and more. ?? Example: ?? ``` > Create a new OpenSPP module that adds a salary field to the individual and calculates the total revenue of the household. ``` Newlogic Copilot will: 1. Create the module structure 2. Define models and fields 3. Implement logic to calculate total revenue 4. Update views with new fields 5. Add necessary security rules 6. Deploy the module to a test environment And much more! ?? Interested in a Private Beta? ?? While we’re not ready for a full public release yet, we're inviting interested people to join our private beta, which will start soon. If you'd like to be among the first to experience Newlogic Copilot, comment or send us a message! #DigitalInnovation #BetaTesting #SoftwareDevelopment #DaaS #DPG
