???A New Chapter in Open Science: Introducing openRxiv! When we (a team from Yale School of Medicine BMJ and Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory) co-founded medRxiv in 2019, our vision was to transform scientific communication in medicine and health sciences—making discoveries accessible rapidly, openly, and transparently. Alongside its sibling platform bioRxiv, medRxiv has exceeded our highest expectations, hosting hundreds of thousands of preprints that have accelerated global collaboration and innovation. Today, I'm thrilled to be part of the next big step: the launch of?openRxiv, an independent, researcher-led nonprofit dedicated to overseeing and sustaining these transformative preprint platforms. As a member of openRxiv’s inaugural Board of Directors, I'm honored to continue championing a future where life and health sciences discoveries are shared openly and equitably, empowering researchers across the globe. Join us as we build upon the remarkable success of medRxiv and bioRxiv, ensuring that scientific communication remains rapid, open, and responsive to researchers' needs worldwide. openRxiv Joseph Ross Richard Sever John Inglis Theodora Bloom Claire Rawlinson Samantha Hindle Yale University Explore more about our mission and vision at?openrxiv.org. #openRxiv #OpenScience #Preprints #ResearchInnovation #bioRxiv #medRxiv #ScienceForAll

We are excited to announce that the nonprofit preprint servers bioRxiv and medRxiv are now managed by their own independent nonprofit organization: openRxiv. Transitioning from our original Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory affiliation to an independent nonprofit focuses governance solely on running the servers and promoting their principal aim of rapid scientific sharing. Its expanded capacity enables greater flexibility and innovation, allowing the platform to adopt new technologies or formats at the pace modern science demands. openRxiv also ensures community responsiveness by placing governance in the hands of a broad and dedicated board of scientists and stakeholders. The policies of the preprint servers will remain unchanged and our mission continues to be a free service to authors ensuring the rapid distribution of scientific information before peer review. We're excited for this next phase! For more information, please visit the launch announcement on openrxiv.org (https://lnkd.in/eCNx99u6).

openRxiv has arrived! We’re thrilled to announce the launch of openRxiv as an independent nonprofit to oversee bioRxiv and medRxiv, the world’s leading preprint servers for life and health sciences. openRxiv ensures that researchers worldwide can continue to share discoveries rapidly and openly. With a researcher-led governance model, openRxiv strengthens the foundation of preprint sharing, empowering scientists to communicate findings at the speed of discovery. ? Why does this matter? Because science moves fast, researchers need a way to share discoveries freely and without delay. That’s exactly what openRxiv is here to grow and sustain. ? With preprints, researchers worldwide can: ?Share discoveries faster—get findings out to the world without waiting on traditional publishing timelines, providing real-time access to emerging research ?? Access new research freely—no paywalls, no barriers, just open science for all ?? Enable transparency in scientific communication—because research should serve the global scientific community Since their launches in 2013 and 2019, respectively, preprint servers bioRxiv and medRxiv have transformed how scientific findings are communicated. They have hosted more than 325,000 reports of new discoveries, enabling scientists worldwide to collaborate, iterate, and build upon each other’s work at an unprecedented pace. These platforms play a critical role during global challenges in health and research, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, where rapid scientific dissemination is key. Preprints provide real-time access to emerging research, accelerating collaborations and informing public health responses.? ? With openRxiv, bioRxiv and medRxiv remain independent, and researcher-led, ensuring researchers stay in control of how life and health science is shared. The organization allows for continued innovation in how the latest scientific results are communicated. ?? openRxiv ensures communication at the speed of science remains the mission. ? ??
