Dear All: ? It is with deep gratitude and reflection that I bid farewell as President of OPEN Houston. Serving in this role has been an honor and privilege, marked by personal growth, shared accomplishments, and tremendous?support from an exceptional community I am proud to call my tribe. ? My journey with OPEN began in my mid-20s when I sought direction and purpose. I'm grateful to charter members Sami Ahmad, Riaz Siddiqi, Uzma Iqbal MD., FACHE, QASIM SHARIF, Imran Iqbal, S. Anwer Hussain, Muhammad Hasan, Aamir Shah, Jazib Hassan, Shahid Javed, Aly Dossa, Tajib Dhanji, whose spirit of generosity and empowerment played an important role in shaping the trajectory of my journey. ? I'm grateful to my amazing board for their advice, financial contributions, and introductions: Samina Farid, Mustafa Ali, Faiza Haseeb, Manish Desai, Faisal Bhutto, Kemal Farid, Sami Khaleeq, FRSA, CHTI, Salim Gheewalla, Imran Iqbal, and Mohsin Imtiaz. ? Organized the successful?2023 annual conference, a sold-out event that yielded a 3x increase in ticket revenue and attracted a diverse audience ? Grew the?Emerging Leaders?cohort with 21 new members to continue to cultivate future?leadership?and match them with the right mentors to?accelerate?their careers and entrepreneurial journeys ? Increased our charter membership by 33%, with women making up 43% of the new members ? Elevated OPEN Houston's prominence in the startup and entrepreneurship community through various partnerships? ? Asma Mirza?is a 2023 NIH RADx Fellow, a global health practitioner, and the founder and CEO of Steradian Technologies, Inc, a Houston-based biotech startup bridging the gap of healthcare inaccessibility by inventing a fully portable, photon-based respiratory disease diagnostic that costs the price of a latte. ? Scotty Shaw (蕭光宇) helped create the European Commission's EUvsVirus Hackathon + Matchathon, which hosted 30,000+ international participants, generated 2,164 innovative solutions, and forged 2,235 key partnerships to fight back against COVID-19. He continues to launch and support fresh initiatives, such as the Duke Web3 Conference and HackRice, as well as impactful student organizations at excellent universities, including Rice and Texas Southern.
