Amazing news from Black Players For Change:
ANNOUNCEMENT: Black Players For Change and Black Star have joined forces to leverage their collective strength and resources to focus on removing barriers to entry for young Black players. Beginning in February and spanning throughout the year, the partnership will create a lasting impact in several key areas, including: expanding access to quality soccer programs, developing pathways for players, coaches and leaders, promoting diversity and inclusion in the soccer industry, and utilizing soccer as a tool for social change. "We are excited to join forces with Black Star to bridge the gap in access to soccer opportunities," said BPC Executive Director Allen Hopkins Jr. "This partnership represents a significant step towards creating a more equitable and inclusive soccer landscape for Black youth. By working together, we can empower the next generation of athletes and inspire positive change within the sport." "There is immense power in collaboration and community building. By uniting Black Players for Change and Black Star, we are forging a movement greater than the sum of its parts," said @Patrick Rose, Director of Black Star. "Our shared vision and purpose drive us to create meaningful change for Black athletes in the game." Access to reliable transportation is one of the core systemic barriers embedded within the pay-to-play youth soccer landscape. Many of the families of the student athletes we serve don't have private vehicles, which is one of the obstacles that has prevented them from engaging in competitive soccer opportunities in the past. As we have developed our DCFC program model, a key piece has been working to secure our home fields for programming from DC Department of Parks and Recreation that are within walking distance of public transportation. Even the field, change the game.
