Growing Local Food Online THE online community helping you to build a successful food enterprise
关于我们
The Open Food Network exists to enable healthy and connected communities to build more resilient, diverse and secure food systems that nourish everybody and regenerate the Earth. Our flagship project is an open-source e-commerce platform tailored specifically to community food enterprises and local food producers. But, we’re not just a software platform, we also create shared resources, facilitate community learning opportunities, host events, contribute valuable research to build the evidence base for short supply chains and community-driven food systems - and more! The Open Food Network is a not-for-profit co-op and is committed to non-hierarchical and sociocratic ways of working. We are constantly working to develop ways to operationalise our values such that people feel like they can bring their whole selves to work. “Our mission is to support food enterprises, producers and communities to build fairer food systems and thrive online enabled by our commons of software, resources and community-learning networks.” Founded in 2012, the Open Food Network is now an international community that is locally-led across the world. Open Food Network operates in 20 countries & more join us every year.

A new report?from the Food Farming and Countryside Commission highlights that 'the current food system is unfair, unhealthy and unsustainable.' They want the government to put measures in place to improve leadership across the system, address power imbalances, ensure learning and collaboration, get a fairer deal for farmers, and unlock the power of local areas. The Food Farming and Countryside Commission have also created a set of resources for community organisers to host their own Food Conversation.
"We need to invest in our local areas and our local communities."?? - Kiran, participant in #TheFoodConversation ?? Since the summer of 2023, we've been talking to citizens across the UK to find out what people really want from food – and empowering local communities to have their say on food has been a common ask throughout.? ? Now, with the help of our free, online, open-access toolkit, local communities are able to host their own Food Conversation. The toolkit contains everything you need, from session slides to expert films and more.? Sign up to host a conversation here ?? https://lnkd.in/e4KW_j8Z

We invite you to dive into this guiding report and find out from the thought leaders and practitioners themselves what these initiatives are all about, and what the next steps are for you to explore how to introduce them in your area. We were really happy to be a part of this research by the ESRC Centre for Sociodigital Futures. This is our favourite bit from the article: "The organisations we have spoken to recognise the importance of supporting people to dream about alternative sociodigital futures that shift away from a current focus on competitive, economic growth narratives. They see the potential for opening up ideas around collective, collaborative projects and co-designing new kinds of digital technologies that might support this. Our research spotlights a diverse and thriving network of activists working at the intersection of social activism and digital practices."
It often feels as if our social and digital futures are mainly being made by big tech companies in California, but what happens when community organisations take control and create their own alternative futures? This week we're looking at why communities care about sociodigital futures and what kinds of things they care about.
