Our registered dietitians and in-house chefs create delicious, medically tailored menus using fresh and organic ingredients whenever possible. Through the support of a loving community of donors and volunteers, we harvest, cook, and deliver nutritious, made-from-scratch meals directly to our clients. At Open Arms, we believe that food is medicine, and there’s always room for one more at our table.

Community Champions Week marks the anniversary of the establishment of the Older Americans Act (OAA) Nutrition Program on March 22, 1972, which laid the foundation for the expansion of the Meals on Wheels network that now collectively serves more than 2 million seniors each year. Rep. Omar helped out in both our kitchen and bakery, helping to prepare meals as part of our partnership with Metro Meals on Wheels.

Yesterday, Trellis' Dawn Simonson joined Leah Herbert Welles of Open Arms of Minnesota and Jeff Wyant of Semcac, Community Action Agency in testifying on behalf of the Senior Meals and Services Coalition, which is seeking funding from the Minnesota Legislature for the senior nutrition program and supportive services that help older adults live in their own homes. Said Dawn, "It is well understood that meals, rides and in-home help are the core services that people need to age in place, and they are generally much less expensive than assisted living or nursing home care. Investing in these critical services must be a part of Minnesota's strategy to care for older adults."
