Dropping the OUT NORTH teaser for a little #throwbackthursday fun. I started thinking about this project late last night after I had the privilege of catching a sneak peak of Stept Studios' latest film, 109 BELOW, at Arc Studios (thanks to Ryan Atenhan for inviting me, and to Alexa Hinson for sharing your work). It was really great and was such an immersive experience on Arc's LED wall. My only knock against the film—which is not actually against the film itself—was that I just wanted it to be longer so we could dive deeper into the story and know the individual characters better. Sadly, we don't often have that luxury with the short branded docs. This is how I felt about OUT NORTH, which I cut back in 2021 with Eric Ryan Anderson Gabrielle Woodland and the team at Bindery. I was happy with our 30 minute cut—which still felt short to me—but we ultimately had to get the runtime down for festivals so we lost what I felt were some important threads to the story of North Nashville. Nevertheless, just like 109 BELOW, it turned out great, and is still one of my favorite editing gigs to date.
