Looking for tips on how to write your CV? Well look no further, here are Matthew Parker and James Hudson's tips from episode 3: Focus your Purpose and Audience: - Your CV is your entry ticket to the interview process. It’s a summary of your career designed to catch the attention of recruiters and hiring managers. - Your CV must be clear and concise to appeal to recruiters (20-second scan) and hiring managers (up to 60-second scan). - Use a cross section of job descriptions to evaluate the key responsibilities people are looking for and ensure those are spoken to in your CV. Content Essentials: - Use industry-standard job titles. Provide context with an anchor statement about the company (e.g., “A fintech startup with $500M in revenue and 1,500 employees”). - Include 4-6 bullet points per job, split between responsibilities and results. Use the XYZ formula: “Delivered X by doing Y as measured by Z.” - Focus on measurable achievements to demonstrate your impact in previous roles. Formatting and Style: - Ensure your CV is visually appealing and easy to read. Use consistent formatting and avoid unnecessary graphics. - Always submit your CV as a PDF to maintain the formatting. - Include your email address, LinkedIn profile, and phone number. A home address is not necessary; city and country are sufficient. - Unless required by industry standards (e.g., modeling or acting), avoid including a photo to minimize bias. These tips should really help hone your CV and here's a template provided by our very own Matthew Parker

How do you use LinkedIn to help in your job search? This was the topic for episode 2 of the Open to Work Podcast. Here are some of James Hudson and Matthew Parker's thoughts: Optimize Your Profile: - Ensure your last decade’s worth of roles is detailed with clear job titles, bullet points describing your responsibilities, and the impact you made. - Use LinkedIn’s skill section effectively by adding up to 50 skills, making sure they’re relevant to your experience and the jobs you seek. - Profiles with photos receive 2x the views. Make sure your photo is professional and approachable. Engage & Network: - Identify key companies and thought leaders in your industry. Follow them, set notifications for their posts, and engage meaningfully with their content. - Add value to discussions by commenting with insights or asking thoughtful questions. This increases your visibility and positions you as an engaged professional. Utilize Referrals: - 30% of hires in large organizations come through employee referrals. Build relationships and ask for referrals for roles you’ve applied to. - If approached by a recruiter for a role you’re not interested in, refer someone in your network who might be a good fit. This fosters goodwill and strengthens your professional relationships. Anything we've missed here? What would you prioritise?

3 Myths about your job search that we busted in the first episode of the Open To Work Podcast: Myth: The “Open to Work” banner makes you look desperate. Truth: Using LinkedIn’s “Open to Work” banner increases your chances of receiving outreach by 60%. It’s a helpful tool, not a hindrance. Myth: AI and bots are running the show in ATS (Applicant Tracking Systems). Truth: The majority of ATS systems are basic and lack AI capabilities. Real humans review your resume, so focus on making it clear and compelling. Myth: Thousands of applicants mean you have no chance. Truth: The number of applicants shown on job postings can be misleading. Many applicants drop off before completing the process, and only about 25% meet the basic qualifications. Your actual competition is much smaller. Check out our first ever episode in the link below and stayed tuned for more amazing job search content

?? IMHO episode six of #OpenToWork is our best yet: it strikes exactly the right balance of vulnerability and actionable insight that Matthew Parker and I envisaged when we decided to work together ??? this episode is all about “the interview” - the part of the hiring process where the stakes are highest for everyone involved ?? in our signature style, we first take you behind the curtain so that you can understand what the employers objectives (and limitations) are ?? then we talk about all the things you can do to prepare to help give yourself the best possible chance, in what is truly a very random situation ?? we really love answering your questions and hearing your feedback so keep them coming! ?? E6 of OTW is now live on YouTube, Apple and Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts

We're half way through the first series of the Open to Work Podcast so what better way to celebrate over 3000 listens than for James Hudson and Matthew Parker to start our first of 2 episodes on interviewing. If you're going to start listening, then this is the episode to jump into. They start first though in really getting into rejection in the job and redundancy, why it hurts, why it impacts us so much. Before getting into the meaty topics of interviews: - What exactly is an interview? What's happening behind the scenes that you should know about. - How can you best prepare for interviews? - How to build rapport quickly? - How to effectively research a company or person to ask those amazing interview questions? This is really not one to be missed. Check us out wherever you get your podcasts and on youtube! https://lnkd.in/dApszpiq

In Episode 2 of the open to work podcast James Hudson and Matthew Parker spoke about LinkedIn. They really got into what LinkedIn ACTUALLY is, how it's working on the backend, and how recruiters use it to find candidates. A few highlight topics: - Should you apply if there are 100s of applicants already? - The Open to work banner (again) - How to network your way to a job via LinkedIn (playing a short and long game) Regardless of whether you're actively looking, this is a must watch/listen episode and is available wherever you get your podcasts
