The Open Space STL is a nonprofit organization that works independently and collaboratively to conserve and sustain land, water and other natural resources throughout the St. Louis region.
Throughout our history, Open Space STL has played an integral role in:
* Restoring and supporting a clean and healthy Meramec River
* Helping establish Castlewood State Park, Forest 44 Conservation Area, Beetree County Park, the Glassberg Conservation Area, Forest River Trail Park and an addition to the Young Conservation Area.
* Restoring land and water along almost 500 miles of river in the Meramec Watershed
* Helping to thwart efforts to dam the Meramec River
In addition to restoring and maintaining the region's already dedicated open spaces, the organization's ongoing work includes identifying areas that can be acquired and set aside for public use, and discouraging improper land use and detrimental development. Acting as a Land Trust, we raise and provide funds for new open space projects, offering land owners an alternative to development.
Through environmental and community building events such as Operation Clean Stream and Operation Wild Lands, Open Space STL seeks to raise awareness about the importance of land and water conservation, and the value of clean water.

Through a collaborative partnership led by Open Space STL, the Community Stewardship Alliance (CSA) is a conservation program intended to provide focused, trained, volunteer leadership to restore and maintain the natural areas within our St. Louis County Parks. We are looking for committed individuals to step up and become a Community Stewardship Alliance Ambassador. Join Open Space STL for the St. Louis Earth Day Festival, the largest Earth Day celebration in the Midwest. This free, family-friendly event takes place on April 26 and 27 at the Muny Grounds in Forest Park, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. Organized by earthday365, this year’s theme Climate Hope: The Change We Want asks us to envision the changes we want to see as we actively shape our collective future and to celebrate the climate action wins that sustain us, now more than ever. "If you ever plan to motor west Travel my way, take the highway that is best. Get your kicks on Route sixty six!" Come out and kick some #honeysuckle to the curb at Route 66 State Park tomorrow. We could still use a few more hands to help clear out this beautiful park. It's going to be a nice Spring morning, join us! #habitatrestoration
What better way to get some kicks then by hacking some honeysuckle at Route 66! There is plenty of hacking needed to clear the invasive bush Honeysuckle and Callery Pears that are taking over this historic park. In case you need even more motivation, we believe the invasives at Route 66 are a primary "source" for much of the spreading Honeysuckle in the area. There is quite a bit of water and open space in the park, making it a favorite spot for birds to hang out. The birds eat the berries and, well, you know what happens after that! #volunteer
