For those who doubt Seattle's startup ecosystem, the AI Converge event should boost your confidence. I had the pleasure of moderating a fireside session during the event with one of Seattle’s most inspiring local founders, Matt F., in front of 200+ attendees and many startup founders. During our session, Matt outlined his three pillars for why now is the perfect time to dive into AI: - Mega Trend – AI technology is here and ready to disrupt. - Real Need – There's an urgent demand for transformative tech. - Right Team – The right people with the right idea at the right time drive success. When asked what makes a startup successful, Matt emphasized the importance of focusing on one thing—having one edge that is better than anyone else, and customers and VCs would be willing to pay for it, and then have a “hook” to make your product known to others. We also discussed the differences between young college founders and experienced founders. As a close-to-40 dad with three kids, Matt shared that while family responsibilities might mean you can't always go “all in” like a college dropout, the wisdom and experience gained over the years enable you to act more wisely, and he truly enjoys launching startups in his 30s! Lastly, Matt pointed out that while Seattle's startup community may not be as large as SF's, we get a group of amazing founders fully committed to supporting one another—and they're always ready to welcome new talent. I'm giving away $10,000. One of the things that we want to do with Seattle Startup Summit is really highlighting PNW based founders and startups, especially early stage companies. Conferences are expensive, and this conference is costing over $100,000 to do, and we're super appreciative of all the companies and people coming together to make it happen. Less than one month after inception - people from 136 unique companies have signed up for Seattle Startup Summit. ChatGPT gave me this (mostly correct) summary. Of course, there's the usual suspects in Seattle: Microsoft, Google, Amazon/AWS. But there's also some rarer ones - Apple, Salesforce, TikTok, Cisco, Meta, Dropbox, and Okta. Then, there's the startups and the enterprise SaaS options like Elastic, Concentrix, and Infogain. Of course, as the Seattle Startup Summit, there's also a lot of companies in the startup and venture capital ecosystem like Pixeltable, Wand AI, Madrona, and many other firms (Sam Awrabi - Banyan got mentioned twice ??). The next piece is where I think ChatGPT get some things wrong - I have no idea what the Ultrasound DAO is, but I don't think it's medical related, it sounds like it's web3 related but I could be wrong too. Seattle Startup Summit is the biggest gathering of AI devs and startups in the Pacific Northwest this year - and you can clearly see why.
