关于我们
Open Hearth, a private, 501(c)3 non-profit organization serving Chester County and portions of Montgomery County, PA provides innovative programs to help people end the cycle of homelessness and achieve financial self-sufficiency. Through its own direct provision of services, as well as an established network of other nonprofits, Open Hearth supports and empowers people as they acquire affordable housing, a means of transportation and financial viability. Open Hearth was originally formed in 1989 as a local grassroots committee to assure equal housing opportunities for people who are traditionally isolated and systematically denied opportunities due to their mental, emotional or physical disabilities. Over the years, our organization has grown and evolved to serve residents of Chester and western Montgomery County, Pennsylvania who are considered the most vulnerable, including low-income households, people with disabilities, single parents, the elderly, and individuals and families experiencing homelessness. We believe our greatest strengths are staying abreast of emerging issues and best practices and then developing programs and effective partnerships to meet the needs of the community we serve. Our goal is to confront the economic and social barriers that prevent large segments of our society from achieving their dream of a safe and stable place to live and a life of self sufficiency and independence.

When Tania came to Open Hearth as a single mom with a two-year-old daughter and six-year-old son, she knew that reliable transportation was essential. She wanted to return to school and secure a stable nursing job to support her family. But with her daughter’s medical appointments at Children’s Hospital and no car, Tania had to rely on public transportation. Through our Family Savings Partner program, Tania saved $1,000, learned financial skills—including car-buying basics—and earned matching funds to purchase her own car. Now, she can safely transport her kids and take the next steps to pursue her dreams. Today is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. Many women experiencing violence face homelessness and financial struggles when trying to leave unsafe situations. Without stable housing or resources, the cycle of abuse often continues. Ending violence means not only supporting survivors but also providing safe housing, financial help, and access to resources so women can rebuild their lives. Together, we can create a safer world where no woman has to choose between her safety and stability. #EndViolenceAgainstWomen #OpenHearthInc

Happy Veterans Day! Today, we honor and thank our veterans for their service and sacrifice. But as we celebrate, let’s also remember the challenges many veterans continue to face. On an average night in 2023, 20,067 veterans were living in shelters, and 15,507 had no shelter at all. This is a stark reminder that our duty to support those who served extends beyond words—it’s a commitment to action. Let’s work together to ensure that no veteran is left behind. #OpenHearthInc #VeteransDay #UnhousedVeterans

At Open Hearth, we believe in the power of partnerships to make a lasting impact. Through our collaboration with Brandywine Valley Active Aging, we recently helped Carl find a new home through the Continuum of Care (CoC) Permanent Supportive Housing program. Together, we secured a rental that accepts CoC rent subsidies, connected Carl with local mental health services for ongoing support, and coordinated with the Community Warehouse Project to furnish his new space with essentials like a bed, table, and more. When Carl moved in, he shared, “No one in my whole life has ever helped me like all you guys!” We're honored to provide this level of support to those transitioning from homelessness to stable, permanent housing, giving them the foundation they need to thrive. #OpenHearth #CommuntiyPartnerships
