We are excited to announce the next big step in developing geospatial ecosystems: the launch of the EC-funded FOCAL EU Project. FOCAL unites city planners, forestry experts, and climate researchers to develop an open platform and customized applications aimed at strengthening climate adaptation and mitigation in urban and forest environments. The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) helps design the integration platform and will connect FOCAL to the latest geospatial ecosystem research and development. Key features of FOCAL: ? Localized insights: Leveraging high-resolution urban and forestry datasets with cutting-edge climate projection data. ? AI-powered workflows: Incorporating Artificial Intelligence to enhance data resolution, paving the way for groundbreaking insights. FOCAL will collaborate closely with the OGC Climate Resilience Domain Working Group to establish best practices for data integration and processing. The outcomes will be widely accessible, with results shared through the OGC Academy to benefit a broader community. #ClimateResilience #Geospatial #Urban #Forestry #OGCFOCAL

Geospatial Tech track: Legacy is good but trendy is better. IIT Bombay, IIIT Hyderabad, OGC India, OpenGeo bunched together & organised Winter school dealing with OGC API and pygeoapi , very important track to deal with. With the expectations of modern web developers, enabling seamless integration into web, mobile, and IoT applications RESTful OGC APIs gets a special attention. Legacy Standards WMS, WFS, and WCS remain critical for backward compatibility and use in traditional GIS workflows. However, OGC API Complements and eventually may replace legacy standards, especially for new projects focusing on cloud-based, scalable, and developer-friendly solutions. JSON and REST are lighter than XML and SOAP, improving performance and reducing development complexity. OGC APIs are designed to adapt to evolving geospatial needs, ensuring long-term relevance. In case you are not aware, pygeoapi is an implementation of the OGC API standards, written in Python. It bridges the gap between legacy OGC standards and modern API requirements by Providing a simple way and Enabling interoperability with cloud-based platforms and microservices. The access control and security interfaces are noteworthy. Authentication, Data access at micro level, container security, usage rate limiting , auditing and many. If you haven’t explored start first . Develop platforms that are trendy and robust. Need any guidance , connect with me. Thanks to Dr KS Rajan , Dr Sumit Sen , Harsha Vardhan Madiraju for the invite for the track and hackathon. #ogc #iitb #iiith #geospatial #techtrack #mentorship #guidance

OGC is seeking feedback on the candidate OGC API - DGGS - Part 1: Core Standard before voting on its adoption. The candidate Standard enables compliant APIs to retrieve geospatial data for a specific area, time, and resolution, based on a specific Discrete Global Grid Reference System, and also inquire which zones of interest correspond to a particular query.
