  • “The TOB Way” emphasizes six mindsets in how we work and collaborate. The fifth in the series is “buildership”—a mindset that’s so important to us we combined two words (“builder” and “ownership”). There’s a story we love about two masons performing the exact same task. They were each approached and asked about their work. The first one said, “Don’t you see? I’m cutting stones.” The second one said, “Don’t you see? I’m building a house.” Although both masons are contributing value, the second knows what that value can make possible. At Open Book, we care deeply about doing great work that points to what is possible—and that takes a mindset of responsibility and collective momentum.

  • At Open Book, we believe nuance is part of great storytelling. Sometimes, that means helping shape a narrative from binary and black-and-white to celebrating the nuances of grey within it. This word art displayed in our office moves subtly from black-and-white to grey, reminding us every day of the importance of nuance. And it's a great example of how we think about art + copy conveying a story—together.

At Open Book, we work with leaders driven by vision—and having vision means you keep innovating new ways to serve. That’s the case for our friends at Parable Wealth, and as they prepared to introduce a new niche expertise to serve their clients better, they needed solutions to communicate it well without losing the core of what always drives them. So it’s been our joy to serve by creating a dynamic new landing page, featuring integrated messaging, design, and intentional animation, to spotlight their expertise with clarify and beauty. We’re excited to see their story continue to compound.

  • "The TOB Way” emphasizes six mindsets in how we work and collaborate. The fourth in the series is “Generous Partner”—a mindset that takes its name from the world of improv or acting, where?you have a scene partner. A generous scene partner always gives you things to work with, react to, or springboard off of in your own process. Their?efforts make you be better—which then?elevates?what you can offer to them or other partners. That?exchange can be catalytic—and at Open Book, we’re in the business of creating catalytic work. So every day we aim to be generous with each other and those whom we partner. As a side note—one former TOB teammate loved the idea of generous partner so much he incorporated it into his wedding vows to his wife. And we think that’s beautiful.?

  • At Open Book, we work with people who have big visions they want to communicate in concrete ways. Our friends at?Christ Central Durham?had something concrete (literally a historic building) they wanted to make sure communicated a big vision. We helped them develop a campaign strategy of "Make Visible" to reinforce that purchasing a building is about so much more than brick and mortar. It's an opportunity to make visible in very real ways movements of hospitality, mercy, and service—for the good of the whole city. We had the privilege of crafting the story, brand, campaign materials, and website to invite their congregation and broader community into this vision. See the campaign: https://lnkd.in/g3phg3qb

  • Two weeks ago, we closed the office because it was -15 degrees. Today two Open Bookers crawled out the window to sit on a deck in the office alley to enjoy 50 degree temps. Minnesota is delightfully unpredictable in January. But we wouldn’t have it any other way!
