We attended the GDS summit this week and held over a dozen executive meetings! Learnings, perspective and reminders were fantastic… My top 3: 1. Leadership is influence 2. Security must enable the mission 3. Data/ai are the Crown Jewels, which means all eyes are on authorization and access controls
Wrapping Up Day 1 of the GDS Security Summit in San Diego! Day 1 of the GDS Security Summit has been packed with insights, discussions, and collaboration! We kicked off with an inspiring keynote from Bob Fabien "BZ" Zinga (版主) ????????, CISO at the US Navy Reserves, who explored Leading Through Innovation. Bob shared actionable approaches for leveraging tech advancements, data analytics, and AI to drive strategic decision-making. Our first panel brought together industry leaders Dana Turner, CISSP (Union Bank & Trust), Mike Welna (Boys Town), and Ryan Shea (Wiz), who delved into the risks posed by emerging technologies while balancing them with the need for seamless innovation. Following this, Patrick Dillon, Chief Revenue Officer at Airlock, presented Creating a Cybersecurity Playlist of Trusted Hits and Blocked Threats. From “must-play” strategies to “skip-worthy” dangers like malware and rogue apps, Patrick delivered an engaging session with actionable takeaways. The afternoon featured an interactive panel with Ricardo Johnson (Dentsply Sirona) and Jonathan Chan (Episource), followed by a workshop led by Scott J. Simpson, VP of Solutions Architecture at Veracode, on Strategic Leadership in DevSecOps for CISOs. Ariel Parnes, Co-Founder & COO at Mitiga, and Selva Vinothe Mahimaidas, Chief Security Officer at Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, shared real-world lessons on Mitigating Cloud and SaaS Threats. Ariel left us with a powerful reminder: “Focusing solely on prevention is NOT ENOUGH as the industry matures.” We closed Day 1 with the fantastic Rob Petrosino, Strategic Engagement Advisor: AI at the FBI, who delivered a compelling session on AI's Impact on Evolving Threats. A huge thank you to our host, Neeha Curtis, for guiding us through a fantastic first day.
