This project honors the legacy of Congressman Esteban E. Torres, a champion for Latino civil rights, by providing 51 units of safe, affordable housing for low-income families. As Black History Month comes to a close, we want to recognize the legacy of Paul R. Williams, AIA, the trailblazing architect who shaped the City of Los Angeles. The first African American elected a Fellow of the The American Institute of Architects (AIA) in 1957, Williams overcame racism and adversity to design some of LA’s most iconic buildings. His portfolio ranged from elegant private residences for Hollywood legends like Lucille Ball and Frank Sinatra to affordable housing that expanded homeownership opportunities. Beyond his architectural impact, he was deeply involved in civic service, using his skills to uplift communities and advocate for social progress.
