The Smet Foundation and the Onward 2 High School program are excited to have Nancy Portillo join the team as the first Executive Director of Onward 2 High School, the premier middle-to-high school bridge program?committed?to supporting students and families across Los Angeles County. With three decades of experience in education, her career has spanned across all school systems, including traditional public, charter, international, homeschool, and Catholic education within the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. She has?held?various positions, from teacher’s assistant to master teacher, principal, Deputy Superintendent, Chief Academic Officer, Chief of Staff, and most recently, California’s Chief Deputy Superintendent of Public Instruction at the California Department of Education. Nancy shares, “It has been a pleasure and honor to meet with every Onward 2 High School partner school team to learn about the program’s successes and vision for expansion. I look forward to?contributing my experience to the?Onward 2 High School program with our growing team and am excited to collaborate with Onward Scholars, Onward 4 Excellence, and Onward Leaders as we continue the great work of?the?Smet Foundation?in supporting young people for success in middle school, high school, college, career and beyond. Onward!” With that, we are excited to expand from our current Onward 2 High School program sites at Sacred Heart High School and St. Pius X - St. Matthias Academy and to be growing the team at Bishop Mora Salesian, Cathedral High School College Preparatory - Los Angeles, St. Anthony High School, and St. Mary's Academy- Inglewood, CA.
