Onvida Health is proud to share that Dr. Kristina Diaz, President of Onvida Health Medical Group, has been selected as a fellow in the Carol Emmott Fellowship Class of 2025. This prestigious program empowers women healthcare leaders to drive change through mentorship, resources, and impactful opportunities. “As someone who grew up in Yuma, Dr. Diaz’s recognition on a national level is a tremendous source of pride for our community,” said Dr. Robert Trenschel, President & CEO of Onvida Health. Dr. Diaz is one of only 24 healthcare leaders selected nationwide for this 14-month fellowship, where she will collaborate with top leaders from across the country, enhancing her leadership skills and bringing fresh perspectives back to Onvida Health. “I’m excited to apply what I learn to continue improving care for our community, where I’ve had the privilege of serving for over 14 years,” said Dr. Diaz. As part of her fellowship, Dr. Diaz is focused on the development of the Onvida Health San Luis Medical Campus, set to open in winter 2026. This new, cutting-edge facility will be tailored to meet the unique needs of the San Luis community, and the fellowship will shape her approach to delivering innovative solutions that will directly benefit this essential project. “I'm incredibly grateful to Dr. Trenschel and the entire Onvida Health team for their support. Their belief in my growth and their investment in this fellowship make it possible for me to learn, grow, and ultimately bring back new ideas to continue improving care for our community,” Dr. Diaz added. We celebrate Dr. Diaz’s outstanding accomplishment and her continued dedication to the Yuma community. As February winds down, we reflect on the impact of National Heart Month and recognize Dr. H. Evren Kaynak and Dr. Preeti Chandra for their incredible leadership in advancing heart care at Onvida Health and throughout Yuma County. Their dedication, vision, and expertise continue to shape our heart program, ensuring patients receive the highest level of care while promoting heart health in our community. Dr. H. Evren Kaynak is Onvida Health’s Medical Director of Cardiovascular Services. Leading the way in innovative heart care, Dr. Kaynak oversees our cardiac programs, bringing advanced diagnostic procedures and life-saving interventions to our patients. His leadership fosters collaboration among physicians, staff, and the Cath Lab team, enhancing the quality and accessibility of cardiovascular care at Onvida Health. Dr. Preeti Chandra is Onvida Health’s Medical Director of Preventive Cardiology. Dr. Chandra is focused on keeping hearts healthy before problems arise. She leads efforts in early detection, risk factor management, and community education, ensuring patients receive proactive, evidence-based care. As the Medical Group Clinical Chair of Medicine, she also strengthens multidisciplinary care and collaboration across specialties. Together, they form a powerful team, each tackling a different side of heart health to ensure comprehensive care. Their leadership is strengthened by the dedication and collaboration of our entire cardiovascular team, from the Cath Lab to Cardiac Rehab, the Chest Pain team, our compassionate nurse caregivers and beyond. Every member plays a vital role in delivering excellent care. At Onvida Health, we are proud to have such a dedicated cardiac team. Their passion for advancing heart care and commitment to patient wellness are helping us build a healthier future for all!

Last month, Dr. James F. Moon stepped into retirement, closing a remarkable chapter of dedication, innovation, and compassionate care. Onvida Health is proud to celebrate his incredible career as a cardiothoracic surgeon who has transformed healthcare in Yuma and touched the lives of thousands. Dr. Moon’s journey began with a vision—to bring advanced heart care to Yuma. In 2004, his leadership opened the doors to Yuma’s first open-heart surgery program, paving the way for significant advancements, including the creation of Yuma’s Cath Lab, the introduction of the TAVR procedure, and the development of a hybrid operating room. “When I first came to Yuma, I couldn’t have imagined the profound impact this community would have on me,” said Dr. Moon. “It has been my greatest honor to care for about 5,000 patients who inspired me to do my best every day. The letters and cards I’ve received, sometimes decades after surgery, remind me of the ripple effect this work has had. This community has given me a sense of purpose, and I am retiring full of gratitude thanks to you all.” Dr. Moon’s dedication to his patients and pioneering spirit have set a new standard for care, saving lives and changing the course of many. His legacy will continue to inspire us all. Onvida Health extends our deepest gratitude to Dr. Moon for his decades of service, and we celebrate the indelible mark he’s left on our community and in our hearts. Thank you, Dr. Moon. Onvida Health is excited to announce that Jake Childs has joined our team as Chief Operating Officer. Bringing over a decade of executive leadership experience in healthcare, Jake will oversee strategy and operations for Onvida Health’s Pharmacy, Laboratory, Diagnostic Imaging and various other departments critical to delivering excellent care. Jake joins Onvida Health after serving as Chief Administrative Officer within PeaceHealth, a multi-hospital health system across Washington, Oregon, and Alaska. There, he led financial turnaround efforts and increased operational efficiencies across hospitals in Southwest Washington. This included optimizing service lines and overseeing major facilities upgrades totaling more than $100M, including Emergency Department renovation, new cancer center buildout, and cardiac cath lab additions. Prior to that, he held key leadership positions at Intermountain Healthcare, Novant Health, and the Cleveland Clinic. Jake is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE) and a Board-Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist. He earned a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Roseman University of Health Sciences, a Master of Science in Health-System Pharmacy Administration from Northeast Ohio Medical University, and a Master of Healthcare Administration from the University of Southern California. Jake also has served on multiple community boards and was a volunteer coach for youth sports. When asked what excited him most about joining Onvida Health, Jake shared, “Onvida Health is a source of immense pride for this community, and rightfully so. I am inspired by the chance to work alongside such talented professionals and to help expand services that ensure every individual can access the care they need, right here at home. Together, we will continue prioritizing patient and caregiver safety, well-being, and excellence, ensuring Onvida Health remains a beacon of care in Southwest Arizona for generations to come.” Jake and his family are excited to join the Yuma community! As we bid farewell to 2024, we're taking a moment to celebrate a year of incredible growth and achievement at Onvida Health. This year we broke ground on our new San Luis Medical Campus, which will bring high quality care to our community members in South County. We also broke ground on our new Healthcare Careers Center in partnership with Arizona Western College, to provide aspiring healthcare professionals with the training they need, right here in the place they call home. This year also marked a significant milestone with our transition from Yuma Regional Medical Center to Onvida Health, a change inspired by our deep commitment to evolve with and for our community. Alongside our new name, we set a new standard in diabetes care by becoming the first adult acute care hospital in the U.S. to receive the DNV Advanced Glycemic Management Certification (AGMC)—underscoring our dedication to safe and compassionate patient care. And we didn’t stop there—we proudly earned the Pathway to Excellence? designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center, becoming the first in Arizona to do so.
