    PHMSA Interpretation Confirms Non-Hazardous Characteristics from OnTo’s Treatment of Lithium Batteries Bend, Oregon –? Exciting news from Bend, Oregon! The Pipeline Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) has confirmed that waste batteries processed through OnTo’s patented neutralization technology demonstrate non-hazardous characteristics. This interpretation, reviewed in accordance with Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMR; 49 CFR Parts 171-180), showcases low ignitability and the absence of RCRA hazardous metals in the neutralized coproduct. As a result, waste batteries treated by OnTo can now be shipped without hazardous restrictions. The recent Letter of Interpretation (LOI) request, conducted by third-party ProteQ, is a significant milestone. Ben Smith, Sr. Multimodal Dangerous Goods Specialist at ProteQ, emphasized the transformative potential of this LOI in combination with Dr. Sloop’s technology, foreseeing substantial savings in commercial transportation costs within the Lithium battery recycling industry. ProteQ, a renowned leader in logistics, system integration, and health and safety risk review, played a key role in this process. This advancement in lithium battery recycling is attributed to research and development support from the United States Defense Logistics Agency (SP4701-22-C-0108).     OnTo Conducts Milestone Battery Neutralization Demonstration for DoD Schofield Barracks, HI - ?OnTo Technology and ProteQ demonstrated manufacturing of neutralized co-product from batteries at multiple Department of Defense (DoD) hazardous waste generator sites on the Island of Oahu. The effort is a technology development small business program funded through the United States Defense Logistics Agency.??The operation field tested OnTo’s breakthrough technology, (US Patent #12,021,202) with ProteQ to successfully neutralize various military lithium-ion batteries to make neutralized co-product.??The co-product was shipped OnTo’s pilot facility for making forever cathode? products for battery manufacturing.?? Follow-on efforts will develop a system for flexibility in mobile and/or centralized neutralization operation that provides cost savings through eliminating hazardous waste. Using this process will divert neutralized co-product materials for manufacturing that is critical for the establishment of the critical materials supply chain to support the next generation of US manufacturing.??? The demonstration was conducted using a mobile portable system that covered 60+ miles to operate at multiple DoD facilities.
