An honor to have been part of EMP-LAC 2025 in Buenos Aires After participating in EMP-LAC 2024 in Brazil as a student in OnSSET - Open Source Spatial Electrification Tool, this year I had the honor of returning to the Energy Modeling Platform for Latin America and the Caribbean, but this time as a trainer for the 2025 edition in Buenos Aires, Argentina. During the training, I guided a group of participants in using OnSSET, exploring strategies for off-grid electricity supply and energy access in remote communities. It was incredible to witness the dedication and progress of the participants, who developed key analyses for their respective countries. ?? OnSSET is a fundamental tool for sustainable energy planning, enabling the modeling of electrification scenarios with renewable energy through a spatial modeling approach. ? Additionally, it was truly inspiring to connect with experts and professionals from across Latin America, exchanging experiences and knowledge on the path toward a fairer and more efficient energy transition. ?? Recently completed a certification in energy modeling using OnSSET and GEP from Climate Compatible Growth #CCG ! I gained hands-on experience in geospatial energy modeling, electrification analysis, and GIS methods, exploring how to incorporate geospatial dimensions into energy planning. I'm thrilled to share my recent learning from the Climate Compatible Growth #CCG at the The Open University where I took a course on the OnSSET/Global Electricification Platform. Research shows that if we follow the current policies and trends 530 million people in Sub-saharan Africa would still be without access to electricity by 2030 leaving the SDG7 -Clean and Affordable Energy unachievable whose goal is to ensure access to affordable, reliable and sustainable energy for all. The highlight of this course was learning about the electrification options which are the #NationalGridExtension, #Minigrid and #StandalonesolarPV. Each of them having their different benefits and drawbacks have still proven to be one of the best sources of electricity. Also learning about the #energypolicy and #energymodelling was insighful as one of the quotes by George E.P. Box that "All models are wrong but some are useful". With the energy modelling tool we might not find accuracy in result but we can predict the future which will provide understanding of the future and help us make an informed decision. Why did I take this course? Using the #GEP tool I was able to observe the trends in terms of population and technologies we will have access to by 2025 and 2030 in using #Nigeria and #Angola as a case study. With my interest in #sustainablemobility in electric vehicles, I found out that availability of electricity is a key factor to the widespread adoption of #EVs. With this tool, I analysed that depending on a nation's population and which of the electrification options before the EVs can be accepted. The recent news from Automotive News about electric vehicles evolution talked on the #HondaOseriesSUV about how electricification is best for personal mobility aligns with this completely. The future is electric! To cap it all,there's need for energy policy makers to look into these areas and proffer solutions that will last long. Dear Network, For the past year, we have been working hard at Climate Compatible Growth #CCG#CCG to improve our capacity building offer, ensuring that we are serving to the needs of LMICs in the most effective manner. As a result, I am happy to introduce our newest capacity building service: The CCG Bootcamps. The Bootcamps capitalize on many of the CCG offers that majority of you are familiar with, including the Open Learn Collection, the Energy Modelling Platforms, and the Energy Modelling Community. Aimed to deliver more long-term, targeted, and deliverable driven capacity building support, the bootcamps come in three modalities: - The Scholars Bootcamp (SBC) - aimed at academics, the bootcamp offers a capacity building intervention at the end of which the participating group will publish an academic paper, - The Partners Bootcamp (PBC) - aimed at International Organizations wishing to outsource their capacity building activties, whereby the activities lead to a policy document of a sort (e.g. long term energy transition plan, decarbonization plan, etc.), - The Data-to-Deal Bootcamp (D2D-BC) - aimed at countries (with or without the support of International Organizations) who would like to undergo the D2D pipeline, aiming to unlock concessionary financing at the end of the engagement.
