We’re excited to share a new report from our friends at Climate Jobs National Resource Center highlighting the critical role of trade unions in New England’s clean energy transition. Unions are calling to 3X(!) offshore wind commitments and prove that ambitious climate goals can — and should — go hand in hand with creating strong, equitable career pathways. This is the blueprint for a just transition: clean energy solutions that deliver for workers and communities alike. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eYcBHXty

BREAKING NEWS: The National Geographic Society Pristine Seas team has discovered the world's largest known coral colony in the Solomon Islands, measuring over 110 feet across! Let's put that into perspective: - This single coral is longer than a blue whale! ?? - That's as large as three school buses back-to-back-to-back. ?????? - It's three times bigger than the previous record holder in American Samoa.??? ... and did we mention it's more than 300 years old? “Just when we think there is nothing left to discover on planet Earth, we find a massive coral made of nearly 1 billion little polyps, pulsing with life,” said Enric Sala, Nat Geo explorer in residence and founder of Pristine Seas. Congratulations to the team that found it, and to this planet that is still capable of supporting such magnificent creatures. And who knows? With so much of the ocean unexplored, there could be even bigger corals out there waiting to be found.

“Revolutionary change does not come as one cataclysmic moment, but as an endless succession of surprises, zigzagging toward a more decent society.” – Howard Zinn We must continue to encourage and embrace positive change because every bit of progress, no matter how small, moves our communities and our planet toward a better future. Happy Monday!

When you think about the total area Aotearoa New Zealand is responsible for, 6% is land — and 94% is ocean! Shockingly, less than ONE PERCENT of that ocean territory is protected from destructive and extractive practices like commercial fishing and mining. New Zealand can do better – especially for the Hauraki Gulf / Tīkapa Moana, Auckland’s blue backyard, which provides vital habitat for marine life like orcas, seals, and seabirds. Join Only One and WWF NZ in calling on Prime Minister Christopher Luxon to safeguard New Zealand waters and reverse the recent decision to allow commercial fishing in protected areas in the Gulf. The Hauraki Gulf / Tīkapa Moana in Aotearoa New Zealand is facing an ecological crisis, resulting from overfishing, pollution, and climate change. In an effort to save the Gulf, local conservationists, community groups, and iwi worked with decision-makers for over a decade on a Bill to revive and sustain this special ecosystem, home to wildlife like the endangered ōi/grey-faced petrel and the critically endangered Bryde's whale. But at the eleventh hour, the Government set the Bill off course by adding hasty changes that would allow commercial fishing in so-called protected areas. Make no mistake: this undermines the entire purpose of these protections. You can help get the Bill back on track and protect the Gulf by signing the open letter at https://lnkd.in/eipftNyW

BREAKING NEWS / BIG OCEAN WIN! ??? The government of the #Azores just created the largest network of marine protected areas in the North Atlantic, covering a staggering 300,000 square kilometers! This bold move brings 30% of the archipelago’s waters to “high” or “full” protection, helping safeguard marine life and vital ecosystems for generations to come — from deep-sea hydrothermal vents to towering seamounts thousands of meters high. The Azores is setting a powerful example for ocean conservation around the world as part of COP16 Colombia, the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity currently underway in Cali, #Colombia. You can keep the momentum going — urge more world leaders to follow suit and protect 30% of their ocean before 2030 by clicking https://only.one/act/30x30

?? The ocean is our life support system - and we’re failing it. Covering over 70% of our planet, the ocean generates the majority of the oxygen we breathe, provides a home to diverse life, regulates our climate and sustains the livelihoods of billions. But it’s under threat. Climate breakdown, pollution, habitat destruction and overfishing are causing heating, acidification and a decline in marine biodiversity. There’s still time to protect it. We must unite as a global community to stand - Together For The Ocean. Check out this new video with climate activist @Brianna Fruean and join us to help protect 30% of the ocean by 2030. https://for-the-ocean.org/

??CAMPAIGN WIN!?? For decades Blue Violet Sage and the Northern Chumash Tribal Council have been working to protect the Chumash National Marine Sanctuary off California’s Central Coast. This week, it finally became official. Only One, alongside thousands of you, was so proud to join the fight to secure this vital NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration designation. Thank you to everyone who used their voice to encourage the Biden-Harris Administration to deliver on its promises to safeguard cultural resources, secure the diversity of local wildlife, and advance the global goal to protect 30% of the ocean by 2030. Want to keep up the momentum for coastal conservation around the world? Add your name to the link below to urge the U.S. to protect the Pacific Remote Islands. With your help, we can help secure marine protections and honor Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander cultures. https://on.only.one/pri-li
