0.1% of the planet’s surface is covered by mangrove forests, yet they store up to 10 times more carbon per hectare than terrestrial forests. ? ? These salt-tolerant trees thrive in the coastal intertidal zone, with their twisted roots and branches acting as natural stilts, protecting against ocean waves and tides. ??? ? Despite recent stabilization, we’re still losing around 1% of mangroves annually, posing a serious threat to coastal communities and ecosystems.? ? Discover how we're restoring mangroves and join us in making a real impact! ??? https://lnkd.in/evzubzh6 Source: Conservation International?

Did you know that trees can help combat climate change? ?? This is because forests can absorb 16 billion metric tonnes of CO? per year*. Today on World Tree Day, we celebrate the incredible impact trees have on our planet. From absorbing CO? and producing oxygen to providing habitats for wildlife and improving our urban environments, trees are essential to our collective future. We are proud to reaffirm our unwavering commitment to sustainability and support initiatives that promote global reforestation and a healthier planet for future generations, like our partnership with One Tree Planted. Earlier this year, the Baker Hughes Foundation announced another grant to One Tree Planted to help support urban forestry development for communities in need. Did you know Africa has lost 22% of its forests since 1990? ?? This staggering loss impacts ecosystems, wildlife, and millions of people who depend on them daily. From the lush rainforests of the Congo Basin to the vibrant mangroves along Africa’s southern coast, Africa’s forests are more than just trees. They’re lifelines for our planet and the people who call it home, helping regulate the climate, protect wildlife, and support local communities. But since 1990, 22% of these forests have disappeared due to deforestation and land conversion. This loss affects ecosystems, wildlife, and countless communities who rely on these forests every day. At One Tree Planted, we’re working to change this. By focusing on reforestation and conservation, we’re aiming to protect and restore these vital spaces for a healthier, greener future. We need to step up and protect these amazing ecosystems before they’re gone. Let’s work together to restore natural wonders like these! ?? ?? #Reforestation #ClimateAction #ProtectForests https://lnkd.in/eyUhhxTp

If you're passionate about environmental restoration and climate solutions, you've likely heard of the incredible power of agroforestry. This approach, as defined by the UN FAO, blends trees and crops in a way that creates both economic opportunities and ecological benefits. It helps farmers grow their income, nourish the soil, improve nutrition, and preserve precious forests — all while working in harmony with nature. It’s a holistic, integrated system that empowers communities and nurtures ecosystems. The State of Acre in the Brazilian Amazon is home to vast stretches of native forests — about 80% of the land remains covered in greenery, with much of it protected in Conservation Units and Indigenous Lands. However, many riverside and traditional communities in the region face social challenges, including limited access to education, healthcare, and income-generating opportunities. Our work in Acre is helping breathe new life into the land. Through agroforestry, we’re restoring soils and regenerating deforested areas like riverbanks and streams. By partnering with local communities, we’re supporting them in supplying cooperatives, creating valuable social and economic opportunities, and fostering sustainable change. The result? Reduced pressure on forests, protected biodiversity, and a more resilient, sustainable future for both people and the planet. Join us in making a lasting impact. ?? https://lnkd.in/ebxvBSzG

100 volunteers involved in Turin, #Italy! ?? Talk about team work making the dream work... Over two days, our local partner and volunteers planted a variety of fruit trees, forestry trees, and shrubs in Turin, Italy with a clear goal in mind: enhancing climate change resilience in these urban and peri-urban sites. This project leverages nature’s own capacity for recovery to bolster biodiversity, empower the community, and foster sustainability. Through targeted reforestation, we’re creating resilient ecosystems that can thrive amidst changing conditions—while promoting community engagement and environmental stewardship along the way. ?? A huge thank you to everyone involved!

Trees are nature’s keystone species, supporting a rich variety of life—80% of amphibians, 75% of birds, and 68% of mammals. But when they vanish, entire ecosystems feel the loss. With over 11,000 tree species endangered, the ripple effect is immense. Let’s work together to protect these incredible habitats and the biodiversity that depends on them. ???? We're planting trees that will give homes to these countless species, and you can too ?? https://lnkd.in/ey86cdj6

Sri Lanka, a biodiversity hotspot, hosts 27% of its plants and 22% of its amphibians, birds, mammals, and reptiles found nowhere else, but many species are endangered or extinct. Deforestation began during British colonial rule for plantations and worsened during the 30-year civil war, which led to significant rainforest loss. Today, only 1.5% of the nation’s historic forest cover remains, with just 8.6% classified as primary forest. Through two projects since 2021, we have supported the restoration of four lagoons that underpin critical local fisheries. These projects engage local fisherfolk — who fish coastal lagoons early every morning — in a slightly different activity: collecting mangrove seeds as they float in with the tides. #Mangroves provide spawning habitat for many aquatic species; therefore, seed collection is an act of survival. Our work in #SriLanka is a story of unrelenting hope and courage in the face of profound challenges.??? Read more about our work in Sri Lanka https://lnkd.in/eeRSamYX

Recent research reveals a shocking truth: over a third of the world’s tree species are now facing extinction. That’s more than all threatened birds, mammals, reptiles, and amphibians combined. ?? Trees are irreplaceable. They clean our air, store carbon, and provide vital habitats for countless species—birds, insects, mammals, and more. But with threats like deforestation, agriculture, and disease sweeping through 192 countries, 38% of tree species are at risk. Steven Bachman, conservation researcher, reminds us of the stakes: “If we lose the trees, we are losing many other species with them.” Now is the time to act—through reforestation, sustainable land management, and conservation efforts, we can help protect these essential ecosystems. ?? #Biodiversity #Conservation #Reforestation Read more ?? https://lnkd.in/edKmsJhk

The 4 main drivers of tropical deforestation? Have a look?? These commodities thrive in tropical regions due to affordable land, lower labor costs, and a year-round growing season. Understanding these drivers is crucial for protecting our forests and promoting sustainable practices! ?? Beef: The demand for beef drives significant land conversion, leading to habitat loss and increased carbon emissions. ?? Palm Oil: Widely used in food and consumer products, palm oil production often results in clearing forests, threatening biodiversity and indigenous communities. ?? Soybeans: Primarily used for animal feed and biofuels, soybean cultivation leads to deforestation, especially in South America, where large areas are cleared for plantations. ?? Wood Products: Logging, both legal and illegal, contributes to forest degradation and loss, impacting ecosystems and local communities reliant on forest resources. https://lnkd.in/eyF5PeRA
