It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Elizabeth “Liz” Darling, beloved former President & CEO of OneStar (2009–2019). Liz leaves behind a profound legacy of compassion, dedication, and unwavering belief in the power of human kindness. A beacon of selfless service and a tireless advocate for volunteering in Texas, she led OneStar to become a powerful force for good. Her commitment to making a difference motivated countless individuals to give back to their communities, and her generous spirit will continue to inspire us all. Their innovative model that offers housing and community to those once struggling to survive on the streets of Austin provided our OneStar leaders with plenty of inspiration for dreaming big and exploring comprehensive solutions to tough social challenges. The vibrant nonprofit community in the Rio Grande Valley wove stronger bonds at last week's 2024 RGV Nonprofit Summit, hosted in collaboration with The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. This exciting conference brought together more than 200 regional nonprofit and community leaders to build skills, foster meaningful partnerships, and get inspired by sector leaders—including OneStar President & CEO Chris Bugbee leading a keynote address! We are so encouraged by the incredible community of nonprofit professionals dedicated to building a brighter future for the Rio Grande Valley, and we are proud to create opportunities for generate fresh ideas and innovation within the region!

We are thrilled to announce Joshua Winata as Director of Communications at OneStar! As part of the executive team, he will develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy that supports the organization's mission and goals and integrates our diverse program areas. Joshua joined OneStar in 2017 as a Program Officer managing a portfolio of AmeriCorps Texas programs before transitioning to lead marketing efforts, including a brand refresh and website launch. As Communications & Systems Officer, he also oversaw the implementation of Salesforce at OneStar, expanding our capacity for effective grant management and data tracking.
