Our OneSky Mongolia team recently participated in the "Early Childhood Development, Education and Research" International Conference, organized by the Mongolian National University of Education. The OneSky Mongolia team’s research and presentation prompted a productive discussion among attendees – government officials, early childhood development experts, and more – on how OneSky’s approach is helping improve childcare and equipping caregivers and parents with the needed tools and skills to stop more children from falling behind. Since launching in Mongolia in 2018, our Family Skills Training program has trained over 2,483 caregivers and parents to provide quality early care to over 9,574 children. Since 1998, we have provided quality early childcare training to more than 113,000 adults across China, Vietnam, Mongolia and Hong Kong SAR. As we work towards the United Nations's Sustainable Developmental Goal #4 of ensuring every child can learn and thrive, we will continue to scale our caregiver training model to provide safe care and quality early education so that more children can blossom well into the future. OneSky is one of the many nonprofit organizations that received a stop-work order and had grant funding suspended last week due to the new US administration’s war on USAID. Our grant was for a multi-year childcare provider training program in Vietnam to help young children living inside industrial zones receive safe care and quality early education while their parents work in factories producing goods regularly purchased in the US, and around the world. The OneSky project, funded in part by USAID, was four years in the making but the new administration stopped its funding overnight, along with funding for thousands of other international NGO projects, because they claim, without any proof, that USAID is a corrupt entity. Fortunately, funders from other countries are stepping up to support OneSky. These countries’ leaders continue to understand that this is one planet, one humanity. They understand that, as a whole, we only do as well as the portion of us who are thriving the least. OneSky will recover. But so many others will not. Friends who run international organizations delivering life-saving health services in some of the most impoverished parts of the world were ordered to stop work overnight. Organizations that ensure clean drinking water for communities and monitor the spread of diseases that could cause the next pandemic have lost all of their funding. I implore everyone to learn about the history and promise of USAID and understand how these terribly misguided actions are jeopardizing the welfare and progress of humanity

Last Wednesday, OneSky’s London-based Director of Partnerships was honored to take part in an extraordinary Lunar New Year celebration, filled with incredible food, rich traditions, and breathtaking views of London, courtesy of our partner, Hutong. But what truly made the evening special? Hutong is donating £5 to OneSky for every guest who dines from their special Chinese New Year menu through February 9th, turning each celebratory experience into a gift for vulnerable children across Asia. Londoners, don’t miss your opportunity to enjoy a festive meal with purpose! Reserve your table at Hutong before Feb 9 and help provide nurturing care to young children in OneSky’s programs. On January 19, 2025, we proudly marked the closing ceremony of the latest OneSky Training Course for Vietnam’s Independent Childcare Centers. We are thrilled that this collaborative effort between OneSky and the Da Nang Department of Education and Training (DOET) has empowered 99 trainees with essential skills in nutrition, safety and early learning. Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy Linh, a representative of Da Nang’s DOET, reflected on the success of the program, “I was particularly impressed by the focus on nutrition and child safety — topics that are not only vital for childcare centers but are also a priority for the government.” Through our partnership with Vietnam’s national and provincial governments, OneSky remains committed to training independent childcare providers working in Vietnam’s industrial zones as skilled professionals that will provide quality responsive care for young marginalized children in Vietnam.

OneSky recently participated in Vietnam’s national conference, "Curriculum Development in Early Childhood Education Institutions," at the National College of Education in Hanoi. With over 800 delegates, including government leaders, organizations and renowned Early Childhood Education (ECE) experts, the conference provided a dynamic platform to propose innovative solutions to advance ECE quality in Vietnam. At the event, OneSky Vietnam’s Country Director Ms. Vo Thi Hien shared insights from the OneSky Early Learning Center in Da Nang and our Independent Childcare Provider Training Program. Her presentation, "OneSky's Approach to Enhance the Quality of Early Childhood Education in Industrial Zones," was featured in the conference’s publication and showcased our efforts to improve ECE quality across Vietnam. The conference reaffirmed the collective commitment to bring lasting benefits to young children in marginalized communities in Vietnam.

Sasakawa Peace Foundation / 公益財団法人 笹川平和財団’s recent report, “Triple Ripple: Unlocking the Power of Catalytic Philanthropy in Asia,” identifies innovative, effective philanthropic work promoting learning and collaboration. OneSky, in partnership with Lorinet Foundation, is proud to be highlighted in the report as an example of effective scaling of our caregiver training in Vietnam. In Vietnam, OneSky works with families and caregivers in low-resourced communities to create nurturing environments for young children to thrive. Over the past three years, we established our caregiver training program thanks to a generous initial investment from the Lorinet Foundation. Our efforts have unlocked a unique opportunity with Vietnam’s Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) to co-design a government-led implementation of the program. The scaling of this initiative is a breakthrough, and something that we hope to replicate in Mongolia! We’re excited to see how catalytic philanthropy drives social and economic development across Asia. At OneSky, we are determined to continue contributing sustainable, systemic progress in the Early Care and Childhood Education sector. We invite you to explore the report. Be sure to check out Lorinet Foundation’s feature detailing OneSky’s initiative on pages 56-57.

OneSky began our work of training caregivers of young children in 2018 in Ulaanbaatar’s ger districts, home to many of Mongolia’s migrant families who often struggle to receive essential services. Now, partnering with local kindergartens and other nonprofits, OneSky trains and supports parents and guardians of children aged 0-8 with our evidence-based Family Skills Training curriculum. From January to July 2024, we reached 763 children and trained 283 caregivers, and we’re expanding our program to transform even more children’s lives in these low-resourced communities.
