???? Even with the change in Presidential administrations, the Inflation Reduction Act is on the books and may pose challenges to oncology therapy innovation. As Dr. Stacie Dusetzina says: “Oncology could be uniquely sensitive to IRA provisions and will be among the first clinical areas where the legislation’s potential positive and negative effects on drug development and access will be observable." ???? Dr. Jeff Patton, MD recenty told Oncology News Central: “The IRA legislation effectively limits the patent life for successful therapies, which in turn limits the ability for manufacturers to recoup their investment. I know some life sciences companies are actively engaged in making these investment decisions." ?? National Pharmaceutical Council data suggests that reductions in postapproval trials of various drug classes are already occurring in the wake of the IRA. Although these data were not specific to oncology trials, the NPC will be releasing an analysis of potential effects on key subgroups. Dr. Jon Campbell: “In our data, follow-on cancer drug trials are a relatively large subset of the overall observed follow-on trials, accounting for 40%–50%." ?
